Engine bay has seen changes too.

Stock M40 motor.

Eaton supercharger from C200K merc on M40 (sadly lost most of those pics)

Melted a piston.

Rebuilt the M40. My first engine rebuild.

Next was a stock M42.

Then built up a 2044c stroker sub assembly.

Currently stock 328i motor, for now. (got a few bits to be installed))

How did the car run with the super charger?
It was loud, drank lots of fuel, had so much low end torque but I upped the boost without remap and melted a piston. Was fun while it lasted, blew up at 200km/h while showing off to some college buddies, looked like a formula one blow up lol. Limped to my buddy's place and removed all evidence of the supercharger then still drove 5km home normally aspirated on 3cylinders bellowing smoke out the exhaust because my parents didn't know I supercharged it. Ahh the college days!

Was the blow up caused by the remap?

Seems the cause of the blow up was due to the melted piston, as a result of not remapping before turning up the boost.

On Monday morning I tackled the S50 exhaust manifold swap, what a PITA!
Car in the air with exhaust already removed.

328i headers go bye bye,

S50 headers

Such a pain to get to this point

Headers done!

I then went on the hunt for a M3 exhaust system and boy they are rare, Boetie Budler has loaned me his from his personal car in the meantime while I source my own.

Had to give it a clean.

Tips got cleaned with oven cleaner, they now look brand new.

I had to install the dual exhaust tip diffuser again for this exhaust.

She sounds brilliant with the M3 headers and full system, has that rasp characteristic to it on throttle blips, no drone and very quite at partial throttle. Sort of best of both worlds.
I have felt a difference in power throughout the rev range and even at partial throttle inputs the car has more oomph and just wants to rev, this tells me my old system was a restriction on the M52B28 motor.
Now Im on the hunt for my own M3 exhaust system.

I know of someone selling a modified s50 exhaust. For 1800. He has changed the rear silencer thou. But so would I as they are shit and very restrictive. Here is a pic of myne opened up

Thanks George. You have pm.

I've seen that done before where they modify the rear silencer to be a freeflow instead of a baffled box. My concern is doesn't that lead to drone as those baffles tune out any unwanted exhaust noises? Haven't heard one with the box modified like this before so I have no idea how it sounds.

Unless you building an oem only car I wouldn't keep it as a few ppl that I have spoken to and what I have read online all agree it is def restrictive

Earlier this week I picked up some fresh semis from 1st race at Zwartkops, Bridgestone Potenza RE-11S 225/45/17.

Still on the hunt for a M3 exhaust system. They look and sound awesome.

Exhaust sound clip.
