MP not covering "trim" items

2008 E90 330d auto pre LCI. Noticed the sound deadening under the plastic covers over the engine was beginning to come loose and dangling onto the alternator and power steering reservoir. Contacted agents about fixing it under extended MP before it gets caught in the fan belt and maybe cause expensive damage but they tell me it is cosmetic and not covered as car is older than 2 years. So, if i leave it dangling there it could get caught in the fan belt and maybe break the belt/cause the belt to come off a pulley and maybe damage the radiator/break the plastic pipework around the pulleys/damage the waterpipes and thus cause thousands of rands of damage which will probably be covered by Motorplan. I did the sensible thing and tore it off before and can do damage but feel a bit done in as i was hoping they would be more sympathetic to my cause.

Write them a formal complaint, and tell them to please make a note on your motorplan, that you did report the matter, and that if indeed the loose parts get ripped off and into the belts or fan or pully, and damages the mechanicals, they will be held responsible!!

I did that with my car when my gear knob came loose, and the clips on the inside broke, and they also refused to replace the gear knob, but i wrote a complaint stating that if my gearbox breaks due to me trying to change gears and the gear knob coming off, its their responcibility!!

...they replaced my gear knob 2 days later.

all trim is covered for 2 years as per manufacturer warranty, not m/plan. They could submit a claim to seek approval from BMW after the 2 year period.
If it were to tear out and damage the fan etc, BMW would most likely not repair anything under m/plan.

This is why I feel that the value of motorplan and for that matter, motorplan itself is very very much overrated!! :nonono: :bangdesk:

So the won't fix a R100 item that could cause a R10 000 problem!!! They must of been in the same Maths class as Juju.

Prevention is better than cure

Shame BMW, Shame

This is the reply i got from the workshop manager at the agents:

"Many thanks for sending these photos.

I can see what you are referring to.

Unfortunately we are not able to do a warranty claim on this item as it’s a trim cover that carry’s 2 year warranty and the car is more than 2 years old.

The Motorplan contract does not cover trim items.

To replace this cover would cost R3965.80 plus labour to fit.

We unfortunately would have to order from BMW SA.

Please let me know if we can order?"

I told him not to order the part. Ripped off the offending material and left it at that.

This is standard procedure amongst all manufacturers, not only BMW. Had the same with the inside bootlid cover on my focus, Ford said its trim and car was 2 years old. Lazarus Auto wanted to charge me R6k for a replacement panel, it ended up costing me R26.50 at Hatfield auto, as they repaired it, by fitting new cover screws.

Do what I suggested...

Send that reply to HQ of the Motorplan section, and tell them that if something happens to the engine due to this they will be held responcible.

I agree with Cois. And this is also not trim or cosmetic cover. Its and a acoustics cover to dampen sound and it does not fall under trim on realoem.com
