Motorplan transfer?

Hey guys,

I bought a Z4M recently and took ownership last week.

Motorplan on the vehicle ends this year December. '07 model with 41000km's on the clock.

The Cresta dealership told me that it's R1200 to have the vehicle transferred to my name? Is this correct? It seems a bit stiff to have some personal details updated on the system? :flyfun:

Regards

Its worth paying that amount for the transfer. Its more than a paperwork exercise.

You would be amazed at what people charge for 'paperwork' these days, but yes, that sounds about right. Heard of some people that paid up to R2k to MP transfers. I got mine for free as a gift from BMW though, so it all depends on your deal I suppose.

Some feedback...Quality check on the car failed. I'm waiting for the detailed report to be sent to me. There's no switching the motorplan to my name before the quality check passes 100%. So now I have to get the dealership I bought it from tend to the issues listed.:thumbdo:

Not good news at all...Here's to hoping the findings are small.

I dont think we get anything free from BMW, they work the cost in somewhere for sure...
I am guessing you didn't buy from a BMW dealership (hopefully) given the car has failed quality check.

You have the right to return the car based on the new CPA, if the dealership won't / can't fix the car sufficiently, it really is worth keeping your motorplan.

part of the motorplan transfer involves BMW fixing everything that is wrong with the car

if its parts that are covered under motorplan then then BMW will fix it. if its paint issues like from a respray or they see its damage from an accident then they wont fix it or change the motorplan until its up to par.

So this happened today...

BMW Northcliff phones and says the quality check failed. Mostly paint issues and a worn tyre. The worst offender on the list is a control arm which they state isn't original, and the output from the fault list (see attached)

What concerns me is that the quality check has been done previously, AND PASSED at Joburg City Auto BMW in town (in Feb, looking at the sign-off sheet), but today they picked up all these issues, and this after ONLY BMW worked on the vehicle...? WTF?!?:nonono:

So either BMW Northcliff is looking for a quick buck, or BMW Joburg City Auto didn't do a proper check when they signed it off initially...

Any advice on where to go from here, as currently I'm sitting with a car with a faulty starter, which nobody wants to touch, cause the motorplan can't be transferred into my name, due to the quality check failing... FML.

PS: some feedback on the error codes attached would be appreciated too, but I dunno what format to attach BMP and JPG fails???

Ok...Had a quick look at the rules. The motorplan thread is locked under the rules section? Am I not allowed to discuss it here?

Judging from previous experience, waiving index fingers got me a night on the couch...

Whats the deal?

Why don't you have the MP transfer done in Joburg City Auto if they worked on the car last.

Then once it's on your name you can take it to any other BMW dealer.

Well, the guys who I bought the vehicle from is doing that for me. So here's to hoping they can have it sorted out tomorrow. Else I'm gonna have to say sweet goodbyes and find another Z4M somewhere...:thumbdo:

Here's to hoping...

I need a beer!

Deal is that everyone is always so worried about motorplan, but the truth is we will all be a lot better off if BMW just dropped the whole motorplan hoax and replaced it with a proper warranty. Really what is a couple of months of motorplan really going to do? Unless you are planning to try and milk the motorplan just before it expires.
In the end someone is paying for motorplan, nothing is ever free. And I don't really get why people want their cars serviced/repaired at the dealers anyway, as they seem to be the worst bunch of excuses for part replacers around.
