Motorplan - to renew or not?

Hi

Been lurking for a while and decided to join very recently.

Have recently bought 2008 X3 3.0d M Sport auto with 96 000km. Some advice from the fanatics will be useful

1. The motorplan is shortly to expire. Should I renew it?

2. it has 19" wheels with tyres that looks good, but don't appear to be a known brand. Something from Eptyres.com - accelera. I have driven about 1200km on them in sun, rain etc and they seem to handle well. Should I ditch them?

Any advice will be appreciated

I would extend.

It give you peace of mind, and pretty much "free" motoring for the entire duration.

extend the plan for now and see if any gremlins creep up, keep the tyres as well, for now that is, let us know how they handle as they wear along...

I have asked the dealer to quote on extension of motorplan. Makes sense if there are any gremlins...

BTW, on my 120d I have let the motorplan lapse and also take it to an independent BMW focussed service place. They seem to do a good job.

lol i think you have one to many zeroes there......I wouldn't renew for that kind of money with or without the extra zero.

R50k in a bank account or other investment will sort out ant type of rainy day that you might experience with the X for the next couple of years.

No to MP extension from me then.

Sent from a tiekiebox.

They wanted to rape me something horrible when I inquired about extending the MP on my car also - told them to shove it.

Basically the way I see it when they give you a MP extension quote like that the are saying BMW is in the business of manufacturing and selling cars, they don't want you to keep the car past 5 years, they want you to buy another one instead...

You guys are right. R50k is money that does not come easy.

I will instead try and save some bucks every month and deal with problems that the X3 might give.

So in the last 3 000 kms or so left, what kind of things should I look out for and get them to attend to?

I would suggest taking the Hollard route. Although I am still on MP and expires end next year. I enquired with Hollard, they have a plan called Motor Xtender, check it out ... 'http://www.hollard.co.za/motor-xtender-insurance'

They quoted me R547 per month on my 2006 325i with 50K on the clock.

My mate with a 6 series is on the same plan.

All the best!
