Motorplan - To extend or not to extend...

Hi Guys,

Some advice form the ones that are in the know please.:praise:

My BMW 2008 BMW 135i Conv which has 66000kms on the clock is comming up to Motorplan expiry in August 2013.
The cost to extend the Motorplan by 1 year is almost R13000-00.

Is it feasable to extend this motorplan until August 2014?
Should I rather go for a cheaper MBI policy?
The car has not given me any problems thus far, so I have no idea what I should do.

Please advise Your thoughts.
Thanking You in advance.

Regards

Nixster

Extend ,extend, extend! You can wipe out R13,000 in a flash if someting goes wrong..

On a X35 i recommend that you rather extend the plan!

Too many small things that go wrong very quickly.

Example
High pressure fuel pump
Injectors
Turbo's
And general service like brakes, oil etc etc :nonono:

13K doesn't seem that much for peach of mind, and if you want to sell the car in that years time it will look more attractive to prospective buyers.

But if you want to do some mods on the car, then rather not take it

Extend it bro, i have heard of a few x35's that have general things that go wrong, and you wouldnt want that issue without a m/plan...

Extend it. If anything goes wrong, at least you know you are covered. There are way too many things in vehicles today that cost more than R13k.

Ok So i went through that exercise.

My 2009 E90 320d is due for Motorplan extension at 100 000km Currently sitting at 99 000KM. Contacted BMW for a quote and this is what i got.

20 000KM 1 Year extension on motorplan R31 000. So i said to myself if nothing happens to my BM in 20 000km or 1 Year it will be the most expensive service i have ever spent.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm :argh: Rip off.

So i started shopping around. I came across Liquid capital, they have that add on TV. They provided me with a quote covering me for 200 000KM or 2 years UNLIMITED This means full cover on mechanical breakdown ( Engine, gearbox, diff, Turbo) None of this bullshit about only paying a portion of the repair.

Here comes the catch..........YOU HAVE TO BE IN AN EXISTING MOTORPLAN TO QUALIFY ...........I MEAN:wtf:

And my premium is R385 x 24 months.

And i have this in writing on amn email

a lot of these aftermarket plans are not worth the paper they written on.

Extend dude. As said already it makes the car a more attractive prospect for trade in if it's still under plan, plus no haggling with 3rd party companys, plus BMW on call, plus peace of mind.

Nixster I am in the same predicament. I have done 78000km

R12k for MP to 100 000km (or 1 year from renewal)
R18k for MP to 105 000km (or 1 year from renewal)
R25k for MP to 110 000km (or 1 year from renawal)

I would rather put R25k away in a savings account, and pay R2k a month into that savings account. That would be the kitty if anything went wrong.

I would probably lose more if I sold the car now, as BMW give kak trade-in values but sell them at premium prices. Also there is no other car I want.

also find yourself a good bmw mechanic who can source second hand parts as replacements for faulty parts. I found one in Durban.

I may change my mind, but this is my thinking for now. Its a risk, but in 1 year I dont see my car breaking :fencelook:

You have to stiil be in a Motorplan that is about to expire in order to recieve unlimited cover ( LIKE Me @ 99 000km) so i qualify. If you are already out of Motorplan then you do not get the unlimited cover.

It's called "Pearl Warranty Extender"

A fanatic once said - "Real men drive BMW's without Motorplan"

I guess that makes me a real man :fencelook:

My car don't give hassles, so I opted not to extend. If I had a car that gave hassles, I would probably have extended.

Now I have the luxury to service my car at someone who actually gives a damn.

It will be worth it.... I just extended mine today.

It depends whether or not its a manual as well. Clutches are around 12k and then theres the turbos.
