Motorplan Q's

I need advice please. Leo Haese says the motorplan transfer will cost R2950  where in Cape town it costs almost 3 times less at R1140. Auric told me it will be around R1500 up in gauteng, these guys are mental. Is there any other dealership that is more reasonable?

Also extending MP for 10k is making me consider to rather not do it at all.

I would rather just want to have the car serviced, clutch changed and discs done and keep the car off plan. Current MP expires Jan 2013.

They say no modifications are allowed unless you want to lose motorplan, even if you give them the remus exhaust and it's approved, it's not a BMW part and they won't consider fitting it :thumbdo:
This is frustrating

I'll try some more dealerships in the morning. Any advice appreciated

1. If you have owned the vehicle from new or have owned it for a couple of years and know the car well...and you not expecting major repairs then I would "self-maintain" instead of renewing MP.

2. If you plan to mod then MP is a no brainer.

3. Extending MP for another year is not so expensive. I would renew it for another year if I was you. Gives you peace of mind

When I bought my 330i the motorplan had been extended by the dealership and included in the purchase price was the transfer etc. Less than a year later I decided to extend by a further year which was then the last that I would be able to extend (6 years old going for 7 then). Because of the low mileage I seem to remember paying something like R5000 or less maybe which I felt was not too bad for the extra peace of mind. And just as well that I did that - the next service was only scheduled for six months later and it did cover a number of pretty costly items including normal service parts. Then they botched up the handbrake adjustment which caused the drums and shoes to bind and overheat - insisted that they replace the rear disks and handbrake shoes, so now have new disks at the rear.

So in my case extending motorplan did save me a small fortune. From now onwards, DIY mostly - and with that, I mean more frequent oil changes as it should be.

Thanks for the input guys, I don't mind DIY and I have a daily so I will have time to fix little things if they do pop up. For me it's not so much about saving money with regards to saving on the parts under motorplan as much as them screwing up the car in the first place.

Like you stated phillip they stuffed up the handbrake, I mean they are suppose to be the pro's when it comes to working on BMW but time and again they prove themselves incompetent. Mostly young rookies trying to get ahead and eager to go for a 'test drive' once they've worked on your car.

I actually can't wait to work on the car myself as then at least you know the job is done.

Another question:

Are you entitled to the old parts they replace / service?

Hi

reviving a bit of an old thread.

Yesterday on my x3 with (2008 3.0d with 96k - transfer case done some time ago) BMW quoted me R50 918.18 to extend to 120k and expire in 28/3/2014

Damn high price!

As Andy suggests I think I will rather save the bucks and deal with issues/costs out of savings!

Yes, BMW are mad! When I bought my car I was told at most 5k to extend a yr, now suddenly its almost 14k, and the reason is they had an "increase" in July/August but neglected to inform any of their clients of it. Safe to say I wont be buying another M next yr with this bunch.

Hi guys,

i have motorplan expiring in May this year on a Z4 2.0.

car has 70k kms and has not had anything other than the services done.

i will call the guys for a quote on extensions but id prefer to get all the work done and service the car regularly with original parts.

can anyone suggest any good service agents in jhb and what kind of cost and service intervals i would be looking at?

thanks:=):

Bit steep for 325 but take it. If anything goes wrong then you covered as cost rise very quickly with repairs

I think its worth it
Had a e46 325ci and went for its final service under mplan @ 90k iirc
Bill was over R30k
they did shocks, clutch and a bunch of other stuff

and that was 3 years ago!

I am considering it as it has yet to go in for a major service and i sure do not want to fork out all that cash.
Yes it is a bit steep but i prefer having peace of mind. Feel me?
At what interval\mileage do i require a major service? 90k?

I think that would be at inspection2.
My advice would be to extend the m/plan if you intend on keeping the vehicle. It helps with resale and to resell as well. R8500 is reasonable for a year.
Just remember that once over 80k kms you do not have the option to extend by time alone. You then have to opt for time and mileage, which gets costly.
