Motorplan or Motorite/Motorcare

I have a 2003 330i still under motorplan. Now i have the option to extend the motorplan for 1yr/20000kms but the cost is almost R20k.

So the question is should i extend it or should i go aftermarket motorplan? Any feedback is most welcome.

Thanks

My 2cents worth. I took out an aftermarket warrantee when I bought my GTI. It covers only breakages. ie, kaput, stukkend, busted. Not going, worn, noisy.... Broken.

And it's a shlep. If you want to make a claim, they want the car sent to the garage, taken apart to see what's what. Then they decide whether or not to pay for the repair. All this takes a few days, and you stuck without the wheels.

When I asked them who pays for this inspection, or if the claim gets refused, they had no answer for me.

Not for me thx. On the flipside, the m/plan extension is expensive.

That is still very low kms for the year. If it was a 330d I would say it is worth it to spend the money, but the 330i's are not known to be problematic. Your major worries will only start to rear their heads after about 160k kms anyway.

I would say, take that R20k put it into a savings account, in the event of something going wrong, you can use it, and if not, then you are R20k better off than you would have been.

Guys if u have to extend the motor plan with time and not mileage its cheaper, my dad did my moms the other day, cost R3500 for another year but not mileage cause her car is still on 75K km. But if u are extending it and need to go past the 100k mileage then they klap you with a crazy amount. If it was me, i would leave the motor plan an put that 20thousand into a savings account as was said earlier. Cheers andrew

The dealer is as afraid of post 100k mileage as you are. I got a quote for R13k for 15000km after 100k km last year. 2003 320d. Didn't take it and the car's got 144k on now with NO problems or any costs.

seriousl 20K? hell no dude...i wont pay that money....

just my 2 c worth....

take that 20k buy a motorrite plan...keep the rest in bank for if something does crap out

either way...you are still going to have down time because.if you take it to agents they have to inspect the problem aswell, the are not gonna wanna fork out big bucs just for nothing so they are also going to inspect the part that is broken.what happens down the line you see another car u wanna buy and want to trade ur bm for it....then u have wasted 20k....

Motorplans remind me of Medical Aids (the savings portion of it). I used to be with Discovery. I spent a fortune with them every month years back ±R1800. I had in excess of R15k in my savings (of my own contributions, not the pro-rata from Discovery). Problem is, they want to dictate to you what you can do with your own money, meanwhile back at the ranch they have used your money and invested it.

What I am trying to say is that Motorplans are good especially when you have nothing else, but they only cover unusual breakages. Normal wear and tear isnt covered and thats normally what we want fixed.

I have no such thing, my car's too old. She's insured for ther full replacement value, but other than that I must ma stand on the street when she breaks and hopefully some stupid ass will be interested in paying for a nice time with me!!

R20k is alot of money especially when you know that when the time comes, your claim needs to meet a certain criteria (and what high criteria) before you are even considered. Lets not forget, its your money in the first place.

I dunno, maybe i am smoking my socks!!

Well for me a "hospital plan" is what i'm looking for as the wear and tear items are quite manageable. If the car breaks it will cost me an appendage which i am very attached to :) But hey i could be smoking my socks too...

Indeed "normal" wear and tears are manageable to foot the bill for, well most times. Hey some people drive vehicles they cannot even afford to drive or fix. I drive a car that if anything major happens to her, I'd be kinda focked!

Propshafts, steering racks, drivetrains, motors, gearboxes etc etc (these arent your normal wear and tears) all the really expensive parts requires hellova motivation for your claim. Yes they are covered as part of your motorplan (well come of them) but they will do a CAVITY search on your to ensure that the "break" isnt due to negligence or misuse. Any excuse not to pay.

I've seen far too cases of repudiated claims (although I must be honest 80% was due to negligence!)

Having a motorplan is great and most certainly is still more of a benefit, but eish R20k for the chance of your claim not being honoured, nooit.
