discussion Motorplan extensions - expected price increases

Hi,

My G01 X3 20d Motorplan expires 14 September 2023.
I will buy an extension before then for +1 year (the car is currently at 44,000 km).

I am just wondering if BMW will increase the Motorplan extension price before then. In which, case it makes sense to buy the extension sooner.

Does anyone know when BMW SA will next update their Motorplan extension prices?

Thanks in advance.

R23700 to have a real motorplan vs. some aftermarket garbage is worth it to me anyway. I am about to do my first extension in case this changes. I am not sure when the increases will come into play but this has been the rate for the past 6 months or so. I want to avoid it going up as well so doing it a year ahead of time. The other interesting thing (well it wasn't this way for my F10) is that you can extend 2 years in advance at once as opposed to a year at a time. There's no financial incentive for doing so, but if you want to avoid an increase and intend keeping the car longer, this is also possible. I am only on 44000km so its time only. Adding kms as well becomes expensive though I have a harder time paying for that.

I would think the price would increase given everything is increasing currently.
Also, more people are buying 4 or 5 year old cars and extending the BMW plan 2 years, at sub R50k, whereas the equivalent 2020 car would cost you over R150k more.
And we all know the story of a BMWs price with and without MP. The price of the MP extension is a no brainer.

Quote for extra time only, not beyond 100,000km:
R24k for 1 year extra.
R49k for 2 years extra

They advised me that this is the standard extension cost for all models in the BMW range (not clear if M cars cost more to extend).

There are also the BMW Service Plans (only service items, not brakes) and Maintenance Plan (excludes warranty and some components) options. However, the Motorplan extension offers the best cover.

Given that my car was only bought in October 2022 (then being 4 years old already), I do not yet have sufficient confidence (rather, length of experience with this car to guide me) that there will not be any major issues.

I asked when the next price increase would be and they said that they are unsure, since it was last increased 6 months ago. I asked them to contact me in June and will sign up then.

I got an updated extension quote today.
These are all for 1 year extensions, at specific mileage limits. I am only at 48,000km, so will consider the 100,000km option.

However, I am curious as to why the cost gets so high with the 120,000km option (is that a major service milestone?). This is for a G01 X3 20d, not an M5...

I couldn't answer you definitively but for my F10 M5 vs. my mate's 135i, there was a dramatically higher quote for him but not for me LOL. This was in the days before 'standardisation' though. I extended my F10 all the way to 140000km.

I went ahead and extended my F90 about a month back to avoid any potential increases with the way things are going locally (and potentially higher parts costs etc in future causing BMW to increase it). I am good to go until April 2026 (and my mileage is very low so I don't anticipate needing mileage extensions). As I said above, total no brainer for what it costs.

To be honest, I can't see myself buying another 'family' car to upgrade/replace the F90. I doubt I will even be able to afford the replacement when it gets here (probably R3M+). I played with the idea of getting rid of the F90 and 4C (which I've done a few times now) but unfortunately I am going to fail yet another self-imposed milestone and push the supercar/GT3 to 45th instead of 40th. Times are tough and things are rough... Paid up baby supercar and family hypercar will have to do for a few years to come.

Best car is a paid up car.

If I request for an oil change every 10,000km, will the Motorplan at least cover the labour (or a portion of the) cost if I pay for the oil and filter myself?

You cover everything yourself. BMW oil changes are pretty cheap though.
