Motor vehicle license fees up by 35%

Okay, so I just got my renewal form for one of my vehicles.

Last year:
License fee: R330
Transaction fee: R36
Total: R366

This year:
License fee: R444
Transaction fee: R36
Total: R480

That is an increase in the licensing fee of 34.5% year-on-year. At that rate, the fee will increase by 81% every two years, which is almost double.

How the hell can anybody justify such an increase and still claim inflation is less than 6%???

(sidenote - this is for a freestate plate.)

Sheesh, and you'd expect a FS plate to be on the cheaper side.....this doesn't bode well for the GP guys

WRT that inflation figure, it is just feel good number so that they can say "look this is the inflation", but in the real world it is much higher.

WTF?!?! That's ridiculous :argh:

When bought the M5 I paid R650 for licensing and R200 odd for the new CA number plates.

I also paid just shy of R500 for mine about 2 weeks ago, but since this was the first time registering my BMW, I didn't know that there was a change.

Honestly, they still expect taxi's to roadworthy and register their vehicles? Of course not, this sort of increase just makes the situation worse. And it's not like they actually use this money to benefit road users.

What a bunch of twats

If they are doing this then we shouldnt be paying toll road fees as this increase would surely pay for the toll roads on its own

As usual we are being milked for everything :(

That's what the E-Toll is suppose to be for... after more than half goes "missing".

It's shocking how much the motorist has to fork out. Best part is that we don't really have a choice as there is no decent public transport system to use as an alternative. Government keeps on saying it's all to try and reduce the number of cars on the road, but if they really wanted that they would invest in public transport instead of stupid things like the E-Toll.

It's easy, you just hold your mouth like this, and then just say it.

It doesn't have to be true.

The state is running out of money for their parties and corruption. They have to get "new streams of revenue".

I was about to say it but CyberMatix beat me to it

Inflation is at about 6% but the ministers lavish lifestyles increase by 30% a year... so that 35% increase is about spot on where it goes.

NW plates:
R410 for a trailer that takes less than 10 minutes to check

Got my license renewal in the post yesterday for my e36 328i ......

License fee: R240
Transaction Fee: R36
Total: R276

Is license fee based on size of engine or weight of vehicle or both

Can somebody explain to me what is "transaction fee" for other then funding the presidents shower  (I know they were charging this 3 or 4 years ago but really for what ?)

Oh, this 'transaction fee' from what I remember was an admin fault in the Western Cape, so instead of rectifying it and refunding, they decided to just continue with it and add it to the other provinces. At least this is what I remember hearing! Theft much...

that is why more and more people like taxi's don't even bother anymore to renew theirs.

Now that I think about it, I'm 90% certain I paid less this year. Or maybe the same. Will have to check.
