Motor Plan

Hello All,

My car still has 20 000km left on motor plan and I need your advice,

Should I extend the motor plan? Is it worth paying for or not really?

How does BMW calculate the motor plan extension fee?

Thanks

you can extend for time or mileage, for a further 2 years, one year at a time, but once 80 000kms or over you cannot extend by time only, and are required to extend time and mileage. One year, 10 000kms.
Extending time and mileage is costly, and depending on the vehicle model it may be uneconomical.

It's going to be very expensive to extend. I would say rather switch to doing an oil service every 10 000km regardless what the motorplan says (pay for te in between service) and then try get as many consumables like brakes and suspension changed just before motorplan expires

Thanks Adis,

How do I go about in getting the consumable items replaced?

My car must go for it's next service in 4200km.

Can I ask BMW to replace them with the next service?

Depends on how long you plan on keeping the car.

If your going to sell it in the next year, and you will do low miledge, then it MAY be worth it, I dont really think so, but it may. I say this for the reason below

E90's are now old, F30's are face lifted, and the G series's will hit our streets in about 2 years, thus that means that E90's are now really old, and are worth nothing.

If you plan on keeping the car, and doing another 100,000km on it, and I dont see why not then Dont extend plan.

Take that 5 or 6k you were going to spend on the plan, invest in a new water pump, radiator hoses, good service, all new belts, tentioners ect.

This is after plan is up, see how much of that ou can do in plan.

While in plan, take it in, complain about noisy suspension, clunking/rattling, en get some control arms out the deal.

If its an auto, complain about sticky shifts when cold, and see if you can maybe get a gearbox oil change out of them, but now your pushing it, alternatively have ZF or I believe OBDWorx is heading that way.

Think of it this way, whats the worst that can happen, you pop a motor. Replacement from Japan auto is like 20k to 25k for a complete motor. Thats a lot of money, I know, but that is about the worst that can happen,

A gearbox second hand in auto will cost you about 12k, if you have it serviced properly now, or just after plan, they are good for 200k

Turbo's could be an issue, those are about 8.

But BMW's do NOT explode on 101,000km on the clock, contrary to popular belief.

Depends what you use the car for, and how you drive..

More questions then answers huh.

But its an E90 320d... come on. maintenance is piss easy, and finding guys to work on it is even easier.

As of today, LCI E90 320d's are in super high demand and I think will be so for another year. They really are bulletproof engine wise and are good cars. The auto boxes do vary from poor to really good. So if I was you, I'd start complaining about it while still under plan. Other than that, keep the car.

I have a 2011 - 320d m pack
I did not extend my motorplan and I am on 120 000km .
Did my last 2 services at Bmw and together they costed me R5100.00 include vat and brake fluid flush.

Keep the car, they really awesome.
I'm keeping mine.:praise:

My father has an 2014 X5 50d, and he calculated it to be cheaper to pay for services himself, than extending his motorplan, taking into account with one full turbo replacement (three turbo's)

His car has 115 000km on the car currently

115 000 km in one year?!?!? That's an average of 315km a day, everyday. He must not sleep! :skit:

I extended my old 325i after 80 000km by one year. It can be done. Cost about R7k.

If you're going to do 115,000km in a year it might as well be in the X5 M50d, your father must be a cheerful guy

Hi Guys
I got quoted R11.7k to extend my 2011 320i by a year. Currently has 70 000km's. I find that ridiculously expensive! How is it that many posts quote around 6k-8k for a time extension?

i dont understand this either. my 130 they wanted a lot more and the 135 only had 38 000kms and they wanted like 17k iirc.
if it was only 7 k i would do it with a smile.

The great BMW motor plan is not the "Alfa & Omega" sometime your plan will run out it is the way you have looked after and maintained your car before the plan runs out, thereafter there are numerous guys out there assisting owners without M/plan and they have all the knowledge as well as the diagnostic equipment BMW has!! :skit:
