Modification notes 3: Upgraded Low Pressure Fuel Pump installation

I purchased a Low Pressure Fuel Pump (LPFP) upgrade from Fuel-it for my N54. I had the AEM universal kit installed but was not happy with the fuel delivery on 60% ethanol. The Fuel-it kit solved that problem. I am currently running between 70 - 80% ethanol mix. For those running ethanol, this kit is an essential modification.

Stage 2 is a complete LPFP upgrade that replaces the stock LPFP assembly with an E85 certified one. The Walbro 450 pump provides approximately 100% more flow than stock (according to flow testing by Fuel-it).

Main features of the kit:

◦ A complete plug and play solution by simply replacing your stock bucket
◦ A new E85 compatible Walbro F90000267 (450) pump
◦ A new Walbro filter
◦ A custom fitting that is tuned to optimize the venturi and pump output
◦ Ethanol Tester
◦ Spare vent tube clip

The extra venturi line is a useful spare to have.

INSTALLATION:

I chose a rainy summer day for installation somewhere in November 2014:

Before installation I unplugged the negative battery terminal and made sure I have enough towels around to keep fuel from dripping onto the rear passenger carpet. Fuel tank was also close to empty.

Let me be bold to say the installation of the LPFP is very easy. On a scale from 1 - 5. Very easy being a 1; I would give it a 2 for a complete novice. If you can find the LPFP behind the drivers seat then you half way there :=):

A lock ring removal tool will save you a few minutes to remove the stock ring. Unplug those sensors and remove the lid then gently, lift out the old bucket:

I used cable ties so the tube lines don't drop into the fuel tank:

And in goes the new bucket:

Unfortunately the US bucket hat don't work on our cars so I had to re-use the stock bucket hat:

Old hat with new clothes:

I understand that Fuel-it do not ship the kits to SA with the US top hat anymore; simply re-use the old top with the new bucket, its a straight fit.

Here is a more detailed Fuel-it install video:

The bucket and float is the same as stock bucket & float...and you use the same stock wiring, plugs and sensors.

Only the pump is e85 certified with an upgraded filter.

Then right on top of the walbro pump is a "custom fitting" that is tuned to optimize the venturi and pump output. The stock pump does not have that extra solenoid. I assume the magic happens there.

Purchased a stage 2 pump from Rennzport and had the help of Boosted to install it.

We ran first logs on the car with e40, pump flash and everything went fine.

2 round of testing, and we uped the concentration to e55 the next week and loaded e85 flash, same results with nice increase in power.

For race day, we took the mix to E77.5 with mhd_bms e85 flash. Damn, damn , damn . Looking back at the logs, it's astounding how the pump didn't even skip a beat keeping above 60s the entire time.

If you running ethonal, this mod is really a no brainer.

Thanks for the help guys. Happy chappy here.

How did your HPFP hold up? I find regardless of the LPFP solution the HPFP suffers with anything above 50% eth.

Hpfp, didn't suffer either. Stayed above 11, 99 percent of the time and dipped to 10 for 2 timestamps only. Never went below that, or hung onto 10 either.

Get those logs up, guys can help you from there. If I'm not mistaken, I think rennzport has some brand new HPFPS thay they might be able to give you at a good price.
