By the way, as a matter of interest, what could one expect to pay for a second hand e34 540i motor?

I was lucky in Feb this year, I phoned around and got my sub for R5 500 in Alberton but that was with no sensors, intake and waterpump, Bemows quoted me R15 000.00, complete and Dolphin spares in Mitchell street Pta still has a complete motor E32 740 with apperently only 140K on the clock for R13 500

Hey clutchy I see there are only two drinkers then on this forum, You and me, :) I am currently busy with her and the car needs to be finished because I am going camping again next the last weekend of the month. But thanks in anycase.

I pulled the heads from the spare motor in the garage last night, the guy from the enginering shop will pick them up this morning and I must buy a headset today as well so hopefully by Sunday she will be running again.

The girlfriend is getting p!ssed of with me - she says that I am lately spending more time with either the F100 with a 351 cleveland convertion or the beast, than with her :slap::hammerhead::cursin:

Join the club. My wife just looks into the garage, see me fiddling with one of the cars, turns around and just walks away.

When I walk into the house, she asks me: "So, how's your girlfriend doing?"

My suggestion.

Did you do the compression test wet and dry (Add tablespoon of oil for the second round?)

M60B40 engines wear their top compression rings unevenly.... Trust me on this I know.......

Make very sure it's a valve issue before you spend on head gaskets, and you wouldn't want to do that twice.

It is possible to do a ring job on an E34 540 without removing the engine from the car, I'm living proof.

Morning all,

Well I did the job she seems to be alright, I finished yesterday afternoon and she goes fine.

Rick I only did a dry test should have thought about the wet one but it seems to be ok now, however thanks for the info about the rings aswell, I am sure it will come in handy at some stage.

well done man, lol, glad its running good again .. !

but lol, girls get very unhappy when you find something "very interesting" and it takes time away from them, so don't do it too much, otherwise they might run away :/ lol.
