misfire

Hi guys,

Just before I left to come out on tour my car would act oddly when idling, it would sound a bit off beat and the whole car would vibrate slightly, to the point where the vibration was noticeable.

My wife has been driving my car once a week to keep the battery charged while I'm away, and after driving it last night she says it has gotten a lot worse to the point where she thought the engine was going to stall at one point?

I have been reading up on the net and looks like it could be a misfire due to the spark plugs or coil packs? anyone with a similar problem?

I am back next week and have the car booked in to get checked out! any info in the mean time would be appreciated!

Thanks

Could be a number of causes including:
- A bad tank of fuel
- Bad plug(s)
- Bad coilpack(s)
- Bad injector(s)
- Vacuum leak(s)
- Carbon buildup

Any of the above could cause the symptoms you're describing. The N54 commonly has an offish idle which many owners will attest to, but if it's getting worse I would point to something having gone wrong. Any issues with power delivery? Does the car start up alright?

@Acheron, thanks. it starts up fine and drives fine and when I drove it last it still pulled like a freight train! will mention those things to the techie when I drop the car off to get checked? by the way are you the same Acheron from the audi forum?

+2....

typically start with your codes being read first, that will narrow down which cylinders are the culprits... and go from there...

I picked up my E93 335i from dealer last Thursday after service. 5min driving it started doing the same thing. Drove it back and took them 30min to fix the problem. I was so angry :argh:I don't even remember what caused it to misfire.

Hi guys,

Car had a full check up, hpfp, injectors, coil packs all were found to be ok, spark plugs were changed and she seems to be idling normally now.

Jb4 should be arriving on wednesday!
