Misfire- 330i

Hi BM fanatics,
I need some advice with this! 330i E46
Firstly the car picked up a misfire.
So I got a buddy to plug in his diagnostics to see.
The error was Misfire on Nr 6…… We cleared it several times but it still persists.
Action taken after that
1. Changed coil & spark plug – No change
2. took car for compression test – All bores are 100%
3. Looked if there was spark created at plug – all fine.

I have run out of ideas on what to check. There are no other errors on the diagnostics.
Can some one point me n the right direction, or may have had this same problem.

Thank you
Shaun

Hi Shaun,
Have you checked the spark plug cable? :dunno:
I had a similar problem and discovered that the cable had tiny holes in the insulation (due to wear & tear). Consequently some spark got "lost", especially against metal in the engine compartment.
I replaced the spark plug cables and the misfire was gone.

Please let us know if this resolved your problem.

Have you checked that injector 6 works fine? Try swapping injector 6 for say 1 and see if this creates a misfire at 1. If it does you have an injector problem.

But lets hope you don't have an injector problem!:mmm:

Thank you for the quick response.
I did not take the wiring harness out of the plastic casing. What I did was – took the spark plug & coil out of the engine. Then I plug it back into the connecter plug and swang the engine to see if it sparks out side the engine. It did.
Will keep an updated post on what happens.

Hi Legacy,
I will try that.
The only Reason i didnt suspect the injectors cos the were no errors on the machine.
Thank you

Hey bru

Check the injectors as well as for any intake leaks.

Some times it might just be the injector orings that are damaged
Intake manifold leaks can cause this problem as well.
