Mini Tuning ?

Hello there,
Stumbled along this place trying to find a Local Mini enthusiasts Forum.

I just picked up a Cooper S Convertible that comes with the N18B16A motor.

Anyone know what they do stock on the wheels and if there are good reliable options for a stage 1 and stage 2 options ?

Is there such a thing as a safe tune on these motors ?

I have heard they are quite "soft".

The car would be chipped for the rest of its days.

She does 165hp & 260nm currently.

What would be realistic to expect from a tune up ?
20hp and 40nm ?

In terms of intakes and dp's.
Any recommendations to compliment the tune ?

Sounds like on intakes to just stay with a panel filter replacement.

Only just saw your reply.

Looks good. Fairly smooth and holding a nice flattish torque curve with being massive.
Have a DP and Intake and had a carbon clean done.

Hello.
I got my DP from Swartz Motor Works.
It Is decatted.
No drone on the highway or cruise speeds.

Make a nice sound under acceleration.

Engine feels slightly smoother and happier to rev out.
Installed a AEM Cold Air intake at the same time.

Combined Additional Hp isn’t much though. Maybe 5-10hp if that. M



No longer hear the engine revving under boost.

You get to hear a lovely burble.

It has a cat fooler. No Cell in the car

I was chatting to the TMSS guy and I think Im going to get one of those.
I actually ordered an intake off ebay and cancelled the order after I heard an intake isnt advisable on these cars

But first, Im looking to sort out all maintenance work and precautionary work - Still waiting on a quote for a timing chain service

Fit and finish is awesome.
Just though I would get intake sound like I do on my K04 GTI but unfortunately not.

Only when we drop the top can you just hear it.
Maybe after some software it would improve slightly.

Car did feel like it breathed and spooled slightly easier but not by much.

I have known both him and his work even before he was a tuner.

On the Mini his maps may not make the absolute most power. Not that he can’t.

Just that he knows longevity is more important.
So torque is held back in the mid range to make the car both smoother to drive and feel like it’s constantly building power and to make traction more pleasant with less torque steer.

Thanks for the heads up, that's exactly what Im looking forward - Im not interested in numbers, not interested in taking it on a dyno or anything like that.
Im just looking for overall better drivability, not necessarily peak numbers.
I actually did send him a message regarding software and possibly sorting out the timing chain on my car but got no response from him.
I was caught between him and Stealth.... Stealth is known for great customer service so I was partly sold on that alone
