Hi there,

I decided a couple of weeks ago to purchase a Cooper S or a JCW (budget permitting). Need something fun to go to work and back (60km a day). :crazylaugh:

I have found one that has relatively low km's, is an ex guateng car and seems in excellent condition. Its a 2007 model. 110 000km on the clock. Champagne Cooper S. Price R120k

Is there any additional info i should ask for before signing the papers? The car is from a dealership in Marine drive in Parden Eiland. Never owed one before and after some google this weekend have seen that the turbo can give issues. Am i making a mistake?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. :ty:

Turbo issues really arent that common.
What you should be worried about though are all the other issues.... there has been many many revisions to certain parts (vanos, tensioner, intake pipe, pcv system) so the n18 engine would be ideal since that has all the revisions. However, you looking at minimum 170k for a good one.
However, maybe test drive the car.... if it idles fine and it doesnt sound like a truck then thats a good sign - the timing cassette could have already been done.
Also, maybe check the service history as to what has been done

Two big issues:

1) Coolant problems, head warps. Only one overheat event and you’re stuffed. A secondary failure event is the ecu pops, because once the head is replaced the techs forget to attach the earth strap between head and block. I repair around 6 Mini ECUs a month because of this exact issue, so this gives an idea of the amount of warped head replacements being done.

2) Oil feed to Turbo gets blocked because of the glue used for oil by dealers. Many turbos are replaced, only to pop again because the oil feed pipe isn’t cleaned. This is usually followed by Vanos issues as those oil channels gets blocked too.

May be the same engine as the Peugeot 207 GTi from 2007.
I know those year models gave issues. I would go for a 2008 model upwards
