I need some help with my 530d 2005. Turbo was sounding funny after I took it to have a scratch/dent repaired at Whiteys panelbeaters in Pretoria West. Got worse over thenext 2 weeks and finally started to screech badly. Was still boosting ok at this time only a terrible noise that could even be heard driving at highway speeds. Turbo lag max was .75 sec. Club motors quoted 24K so I had it towed to Turboworks in Centurion. They assured me that they could rebuild the turbo for under 10k. Came to 12K in the end and they never checked the crankcase breather which is I think necessary. They managed to break the EGR thermostat and pratley steeled it together!!. The car was smoking heavily after. Smoke got less. Replaced the EGR thermostat with OEM part myself. Turbo lag was now sometimes 5 seconds plus. Sometimes didnt boost. When it did boost though, the acceleration was excellent. Finally took the car back to them and spent the day checking while they removed the turbo and checked everything. They say the turbo is fine and the problem lies elseware. Replaced the breather myself with the loo roll type as it already had the venturi unit, but the breather pipe was full of oil. And so on and So on.. Hope I can discuss this tonight with someone more experienced than me.
