This Is a Mid-Engined BMW M4 Race Car and It's Kind of Perfect

It has a 500-horsepower E46 M3 CSL engine mounted behind the driver.

At first glance, this M4 racecar looks like nothing out of the ordinary. It has the same dimensions as the BMW M car we all know and love, with some typical aero racing bits tacked on. Except, it's not an M4 at all. It's actually a mid-engine time attack monster.

This car, dubbed the "M4 Silhouette," started out life as a standard BMW M4 coupe. RaceTech, a shop in Lithuania, thought it would be a good idea to simply take away the 3.0-liter, twin-turbo straight-six engine at the front of the car, and replace it with a mid-mounted naturally aspirated six-cylinder motor from the E46 M3 CSL. Besides the obvious engineering and fabricating obstacles, making everything work together and still keeping the original car's shape must've been no small feat.

And it doesn't end there. The video's description says the car weighs just around 2200 pounds thanks to heavy carbon fiber usage, and puts out around 500 horsepower from that naturally aspirated CSL engine. Not only does it perform, but it sounds great doing it.

Watch and listen as it rips some laps around the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands.

It's not the high pitched E46 M3 sound I expected, but it sounds very good either way.

E46 M3s made such a fantastic noise

You can definitely hear the familiar sounding induction noise from the front.

That is a good question. The CSL variant is listed as having 355hp, so thats a huge gap to fill...cant still be NA to get to 500hp.

Yeah its not impossible to get 500hp out of a N/A motor when you have a team of engineers and a massive budget... Also this car uses a huge plenum that looks nothing like a CSL intake setup.. but to me that doesn't matter if it makes 400 - 500 hp. The experience must be insane... Sound, acceleration, grip... must be eipc.

VAC motorsports stroker kit. 500hp easy.

Google it. Many hill climb e46 M3's run their stroker kit and are making between 450 and 500hp.
