From what I can tell, this is the successor to the Pilot Sport 4, and not the 4S. They are simply using the 4S as a benchmark.

Yeah different sites are covering the press release somewhat differently. I would be happy if they didn't have an "S" variant. The naming convention has always annoyed me.

There should be 4 tiers:

High performance street line: Pilot Sport
High performance road tyre/developed for specific cars suitable for some track duty: Pilot Super Sport (nothing was wrong with this naming scheme)
Track tyre for the road: Pilot Sport Cup
Full on motorsport tyres

We would then neatly be at PS4, PSS3 and PSC2.

Try ordering PS4s or PS4S (see! and I have had several sets across all our cars and many years) and take a guess how many times you are quoted incorrectly OR given incorrect stock levels OR have the incorrect stock arriving...

Agreed, the PS4 range nomenclature is annoying. Have previously ordered 17" and I got PS4s, and when I ordered 19" I got PS4Ss. Guess S is only available for bigger sizes which is a shame, just bought a pair and was told I couldn't get Ss. Oh well ...
