So I bought new control arms at R1881 per side from Imcomex. (They are the distributors) Only to discover three days later that Goldwagen sell the identical item for R1450! I raised it with Imcomex...their head office is investigating, yeah right! Hope you guys learn from my mistake.

Well, you need to always negotiate with imcomex. Besides I have never had anything but horrilble service from them, they are utterly incompetent. But then again - I tried Goldwagen first and they could not get me the part I wanted in Meyle, only stuff like Topran etc, even looked like junk made in china.

when i enquired sometime last year, our local imcomex charged just over R1000 for them. so to me, even R1450 is steep.

I called the Jhb Imcomex and they quoted me R1100 + Vat per side, that is R550 per side cheaper than the Imcomex here in Cape Town. I am waiting for that in writting and then I am going to ask Imcomex Cape Town to explain the difference. I seriously feel like I have been robbed.

Imcomex Cape Town called me now, out of the blue. They have said that they will reimburse me the difference and they have ammended their pricing accordingly. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here and say that there was an error somewhere, but the most important thing is that they took the time and made the effort to sort out an unhappy customer and make things right. Well done Imcomex, the rest of the motor trade should use Imcomex as an example of how to deal with customers and their concerns.

I really appreciate this kind of treatment by a supplier and Imcomex Cape Town deserves a big thumbs up.

So you are effectively going to pay R1100 ex vat per Control Arm? Does that exclude Control Arm Bushing?

I think its cos he 'phoned head office' and they investigated?

Anyway, glad to hear that they rectified.

How many of those increased price tags are still on their shelves. Lets just say that you were the lucky one to notice. As who all were ripped off for unadjustable prices on their items. So its well done Goldwagen. One should scout around first.

I have since received and email:

They ARE monitoring the forum. They assure me that Goldwagen do not have that part. (The guy at Goldwagen took the exact BMW part number I gave him and quoted me "the Meyle control arm price for the E46 is..." so I don't know.)

Anyway, R1100 + VAT is apparently the 'trade' price and not the standard 'retail' price. They have agreed to refund me the difference, which I am very appreciative about.

I don't want to detract from the fact that they saw a client unhappy and did something about it, which is very rare by today's standards. Far too often we (the client) are just discarded and our concerns seem irrelevant. So I am glad to see that Incomex Western Cape have shown that they care. Well done.

Venom, you are lucky, about 2 years ago I ordered Lower control arms, the bushes, steering rack ends and a water pump from Incomex.

The suspension parts all went in no probs and still seem fine, so no problem there, but the water pump was a diferent story. It leaked from new, actually had to re-install the original on Sunday night to get my car back on the road.

When I called Monday to tell them about my issue no one wanted to hear my story," the guy that deals with this is off" etc etc.

A week later went to Midas and bought another and installed it, no problem since !!!

Hi Charlie B,

I replaced my waterpump a year ago for no apparent reason other than preventative maintenance. I actually bought the Stewart pump from the USA. It actually cost more than the original BMW pump, but has stainless steel parts and produces 20% more flow and is suitable for racing too. The interesting thing is after I had it fitted, I found a posting on an overseas site where someone fitted the Stewart pump and it leaked. Granted that it was replaced under warranty. I realise that your pump is not a Stewart, but you should have pushed a bit harder to see what resolve can be attained. When I initially ran into this pricing issue with my LC Arms, I contacted them first. After about a week and a bit, I decided to post. The old 'not available' story is not ok. If he is not there, send it to the GM or MD, I never believe in just letting things go. Then is the top brass ignore you, then you take extra measures. Most companies will make the effort, it's the lower level employees that never stay at a company too long that tend to blow you off. Lack of training, lack of interest, who knows.
