Hi guys

So here is the thread of my 2008 320d Msport auto. Got the car on the 23rd of February 2018. Extras are sunroof, and that's about it.

I'm hoping that this car is more reliable than the 330d I had. I'm starting off with some general maintenance stuff, like cleaning the intercooler, boost pipes and EGR, and checking the overall condition of the car mechanically.

I will post up some more pics soon.

Cheers

I had to fix a few small things here and there.

First up was the left side headlight, it was shining into the trees. So I adjusted it, and saw that the leveling wasn't working. So the next step was to open up the headlight. Luckily for me it was just the small clip that goes into the headlight up-down servo. Easy fix in the end.

Looks great, silver in the pre lci m sport works so well!
This being an 08 it probably has the N47?
Thanks for the compliment guy. Yes I do believe it has the N47 motor. I like the look of the pre-LCI more than the LCI Msport, so that's why I was looking at one of the last pre-LCI msports. I can't stop looking at it hahaha.

I took some time today to tear into the 320d as part of my "car cleansing/getting to know/checking things out" routine. Some pics of the EGR clean, checking the turbo, checking the crank pulley fitment (new one installed before I got the car), and a whole lot of cleaning...

Sorry for the many pics

Congrats on the car. The best balanced E90 IMO
I must say it handles better than the 330d did, you really do notice that the nose is a lot lighter and more "pointy". I haven't found the limit yet, quite amazing how this car handles.

I think it has just been years since anyone actually bothered to clean underneath the covers. The wheel-well cover on the drivers' side is missing so I'll have to replace it, I think this is where the dust came from.

Thanks for the positivity guys! I wanna make sure that everything is 100%. I'm not really happy with the consumption so far, I think my short (5km) to work, and back everyday isn't ideal for consumption, but I think I should be getting over 11km/l?

Car is a pleasure to drive though, I love the composure and grip, and the cabin is so much nicer than the exclusive spec

what are you currently getting with the fuel consumption ?

I have a 3.0 Z4, drive it very moderately on the N1 (50km work and back) and get 8.1L/100Km

My mates 320D ,work and home about 15km ,some back roads and motorway he averages 6.4L/100Km again drive very Miss daisy like

If I drive on the highway it is super frugal, got around 4.2l/100km cruising at 110km/h. But my normal commute is 5km to work in not too hectic traffic, i.e. I almost never sit in traffic, always only have to wait ons cycle of the lights to cross intersections etc. So my average consumption is now on 9.4l/100km. I just think this is really heavy, my 330d's average consumption wasn't as high (7.8l/100km).

So I'm a bit bummed about that. If it's just because it's auto I'll just accept that is sucks in traffic. That's why I am checking everything in the hope of finding something to blame for my poor fuel economy.

I drive like a grandpa and I battle to get the consumption below 9l/100km

9l/100km seems way to hi , even with spirited driving . The auto is usually decent enough through the gears to keep consumption reasonable . If it was petrol I could understand. When last was the car serviced ?

Yeah it is high, to compare I had a 2.0T stage 2 Audi A3 before the 320d and I was getting better fuel economy with the modded petrol Audi with some braaaaaping here and there than I get with the stock 320d driving like miss Daisy.

Oil and oil filter were replaced just two weeks ago. I think I'll change the diesel filter as they usually get skipped with services. My engine is super smooth and the gearbox also really smooth and bites down without clutch slip, so I am a bit stumped to be honest. I checked the actuator movement as well and it mpves really freely, boost comes in a tad over 1500rpm and holds till shift-point.

I need proper diagnostics to see if something is not reading correctly. There is zero oil in the boost pipes, and zero soot when hoofing it.
