Hi all,

I need to replace a pair of Yokohama Geolandar G055A 225/17s on this car.

Any recommendations for good tyre places that aren't too pricey?

I'm going to be in the market for a new car around Dec or so... I do quite a bit of driving, and a lot of DIY, potentially opening a coffee shop etc... and always find myself wishing I had more space. I'm keeping my eyes open for one of these guys, should money free itself up by then mgwaiting: my max budget now is around 300K. hoping that will change by December, haha...

Updating this thread, in case a fellow fanatic wants to buy my car after a few years and wants to know the full history...

At just under 50,000km, I replaced a pair of the original set of tyres. Yokohama Geolandar G98A 225/65 17 102V. I phoned a few places and went with the best quote - R5,200 including balancing and alignment of all the wheels.

I am making a conscious effort to drive economically, which means using the manual mode on the autobox to upshift at times and trying to not go over 120kmh. Average (computer) trip consumption has dropped to 6.4 litres per 100km on the freeway, but shoots up to 7 or 8 when the roads are busy and cut and thrust driving is required. Long term average is staying stubbornly at 8.3.

The Soul Red paint, while great looking, is a hassle to touch up. I have a few minor scratches on the front bumper, but neither Mazda SA nor good mobile paint repairers can get the correct colour match for my car. Mazda SA advised that I go to a panelbeater and ask them to independently source the correct paint. Needless to say, I am willing to live with the minor scratches, rather than fork out big bucks. I am happy thay my BMW is solid white.

The car is still performing faultlessly (touch wood), but I do know that the brakes may need a check by year end.

The car goes out of service plan soon, so I am keen to see what service costs would be. This would be the first vehicle that I have ever owned that went out of its plan, while under my ownership.

Fuel consumption average with SO doing alot of short trips is 8.4 litres per 100km. On the highway, I average around 7.5 per trip.

An update.

My SO and I are now using the fuel economy screen to tailor our driving style accordingly. More intuitive and pleasing to use than the similar screen in my F30, and better graphics too. Anyway, keeping to a steady 110kmh (without cruise control), I averaged 5.8 on a 90km trip from Springs to Midrand. Driving in traffic and some open road sees it at around 6.5. There is no Eco mode on the car, so just using your right foot pressure is key.

I now make the fuel economy screen the default screen on the MZD display and I am keen to see whether this causes a conscious reduction in fuel use over time.

Update - 60,000km service. First service out of plan at Mazda Midrand.

Total cost (with VAT) was R9,063 (after discount, which I had requested). Prices below without VAT, but discounted somehow.

Service (I assume labour): R2058
Service parts (filters, oil): R4158
Wiper blades (all 3 blades and labour): R1376
Key remote battery (labour and battery): R261
Car battery labour: R448
Car battery (brand called "Maxim". Spec 639, but is compatible as 649 with spacer): R2087

At the least car wash and safety check were free.

The car is just over 3 years old, so the service plan has expired. The normal service and consumables cost R5k
The wiper blades, car battery, remote battery and related labour cost another R4k.

Some of the labour costs seem a bit over the top - like R200 to fit a battery into a remote.

An RMI aftermarket workshop would be cheaper, but I still have the official extended Mazda warranty until 2020, so all service and maintenance has to be done by Mazda.

After 2020, I would look into a good RMI place - maybe a Bosch.

Interesting to note that the 3 wiper blades (2 front and 1 rear) are imported from Belgium.

In all fairness, the quality of the latest generation Mazdas are in the German league, so I guess you have to pay German level prices for upkeep...

That's a bit steep.

I have been in a work friends M2 (Mazda 2 :fencelook: ) a few times and was very impressed with the interior and quality. Everything feels good and solid and it's dressed up quite well.

Car was extremely smooth and has nice creature comforts. I was very surprised with the smooth shifts of the gearbox (manual).

...you know that price is really not bad for a major serivce just that remote battery is a ripoff as the battery is R40 at Checkers.

CX 3 is quite small - The size is a bit deceptive, because from outside it looks bigger. Its an awesome car all in all. I have a Honda HRV before - much more practical and spacious, but not as fun to drive.
