Finally got round to Vboxing Obviously's mapped 120d. Totally unprepared, pump fuel, normal tyres, at our usual test track. With 2 people in the car. It ran:

Not the fastest car on planet earth, but not half bad for a diesel. BTW, it's about even with a stock S3 as well;)

And I had a run with Obviously's 120d last night ;)
Lets just say that if the diesel catches the 335i / M5 out of it's perfect rev band it takes a lot to pull him back.

Thanks for the runs bud! Was fun ;)
Sure was fun brother. Thanks for the runs. If only some of the folks here saw it that way as well. I would have replied to you under your thread but it has since been moved to the TLGP section where I have been denied access even to my own threads since the required post count has now been upped from 25 to 100. :shakehead: No one was out there looking for trouble last night, just out there to do a couple of friendly comparisons, that's all. A 335i will klap me I'm sure although he will have to work hard for that win. Peace out.

they can do a 2.09 around kayalami with a good driver witch i think is excellent for a oil burner
Hi Hennie, that's Dewald's car you're talking about I'm sure. He's got to be one of the best track day drivers at club events out there. What makes that time even more impressive is that his car was one of the first 120d's in S.A., with the original iron block 115kW M47 motor, remapped in his case of course.

You may enjoy the following links. 120d, the choice of Touring Car drivers the world over! :) Nah, just kidding, they are not the fastest cars out there but all that torque coupled with that short wheel base sure as hell makes them a lot of fun!

From the line is what counts at a track.

Good times however.

Just some added info , Seat CUPRA TDi back in 2006 ran 14.5sec at tarlton....all that from a 1.9TDi back in 2006.

So what im trying to say is , Diesels to be doing those times aint something new , just add boost.

Wonder if those veins will be able to handle all that abuse?

A friend of mine was running one seriously strong polo TDi sportline.

He also had to replace the tebbos 4 times.

what would be the max one could squeeze out :mmm:

i like the 120d coupe -looks like a good future plan :thinker:

to be honest my 280dt with some work scares the crap out of some okes on the first 3 gears :)

plus you don't have to drill a diesel to the ground to move

yes Obviously its Dewalds car im talking about

Thought so. I say that we should be behind both the 120d's & 335i's since both these cars form part of BMW's 2 pronged attack in Production Car racing this year. Both cars won all their respective heats in their recent track debut, with the 120d of Mishal Sing shattering the Class B lap record by about 6 seconds, leading to it being bumped up into Class T for all future races. BMW Power FTW!

Want to add in another car , that lots of people wont think it could manage in a straight line

The car is a 530d that just ran 14.1sec at tartlon on Friday night last week , now that car is a tanker and to be doing that is pretty damn impressive , car belongs to AKTHAR aka BabyBoss , from my last chats with him i know he is only supporting software alone.

Now if i had to base the above track times and compare it to a 335i or stock 4door ///M at the Reef , its very believable that the 530d would possibly strap its bigger brothers.

Akhtar's 5 is really flying with his race file. A lot of time & effort has gone into getting that car to run the way it does. He was going to try out semis last time I chatted to him. Not too sure if he used them for that 14.1 sec run though? His car is very impressive indeed.
