Man hijacked by potential car buyers

"Durban - A man who advertised his VW Golf on online classifieds site Gumtree was hijacked by two men who posed as potential buyers.

The Daily News reported that the 31-year-old from Chatsworth, who did not want to be identified, placed an ad on Gumtree a week ago.

He received a call from a man interested in buying the car and they arranged to meet. The potential buyer arrived with another man, supposedly his mechanic. They asked to take the car for a test drive and he accompanied them.

Soon after driving off, the man posing as the buyer pulled out a gun and ordered him onto the passenger seat.

The seller said he was terrified, but the hijackers reassured him, saying they wouldn’t hurt him.

They robbed him of his wallet and cellphone and dropped him off, driving away with the stolen car.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said no arrests had been made and the car had not been recovered.

He added that while cases like this are rare, people should always exercise caution when advertising goods online. "

This almost happened to my brother, when he was advertising his sound for sale.
As soon as he told the guy to meet him at the Jakaranda sentrum in Villieria, and that he was bringing his spietkop brother with to help negotiate the deal, they hung up, and NEVER called back.
He even tried calling them back, but the number was not available again after that. :nonono:

I agree fully.

The media always writes about how incompetent the police are and how they take bribes and things like that. This gives criminals confidence that they won't get caught and if they do, they can bribe their way out.

I think they should report exclusively on cops catching criminals and criminals being killed in shootouts with the police.

Where you involved in a Hijacking? I can't imagine that. No matter how big or small you (except if you are Chuck Noris) you are nothing to them.

No, Luckily not. I decided that I will not be any ones victim! If someone ever pulled a gun or knife on me, either they or both of us are leaving this world that same day but I will not lie down a take it!

If I die fighting at least I would have done something. I would never be able to live with myself if I survived and did nothing!

I agree with you but I also will have to disagree. What happens if your kids or wife or anyone that care dearly for is in the car? Sometimes you have to give in to survive or save a life. Also remember taking down a Hijacker can be dangerous to pedestrians, other drivers as he may open fire and randomly hit someone. playing along can get you to safety. Most of the time these guys want money, car, jewels etc etc. Give them and see the next day.
If you are alone and in a remote place (no reason to be there) then maybe take a chance and fight back. Then you can go guns blazing.

If I am confident they only want the car and I feel I can get out without too much issue I will let them take the car BUT If I even for a second think they are going to try and drive away with me or a loved one in the car or that they might shoot me I will tear them apart. I dont care about bystanders, my life comes first.

You are delusional if you think playing along will always get you to safety. This wimpy attitude is what is causing this crap to carry on in S.A. If these guys knew there was a good chance they were going to get nailed if they hi-jacked a car or broke into a house it would stop. They know that everyone has become so weak that they can walk around doing whatever they want.

How can you even look at your family with any dignity as the man of the house after someone pulled a gun on them and you surrendered like a little girl.

Or even worse, what if they shoved you to the ground, grabbed your wife and drove away while you were running with your tail between your legs? Should she also comply with their demands so she will survive to see another day?

I would rather DIE than look my wife in the face after letting that happen and did nothing to stop it!

I never said I will lay down and die or see my wife go thru any torture. I merely saying I will try and get my family out safely if I CAN rather than be Superman and risk their lives.

Im not attacking you personally here bud, people are generally unprepared and I am just sick and tired of friends being hurt because they think some divine power will protect them. The cops have lost the fight but we as citizens can choose whether we are going to be victims or not.

So I am sorry to say that playing along helped them nothing, and if the mother instead decided to take a chance and make an accident, they might still be alive...

I for one is a big supporter of Mob justice.

Where are the days someone was found stealing, then taken to the center of town and had his hands chopped off. or caught for murder and taken to town center to be hung, in front of anyone stupid enough to try the same thing.

Society has gone to soft on these f@ckers that think they can walk by and take what other people spend their lives on working for.
