This is a dreadful thing. Cops who are in fact robbers! How are we supposed to tell the difference? A real cop will ask politely for a bribe and a fake cop will just take what he wants?

You will more than likely be shot

Hence my question to Cois, what do we do?
Might as well just give these fvckers the keys and be like here you go??

This happened just around from where I live so naturally I am concerned

This is just shocking. It should be SAPS's highest priority to end c**ts like these impersonating and discrediting the force.
What is the Insurance co's view on a case like this? Would they argue to not pay out as you willingly stopped even though you were 'tricked' into stopping?
I'd be sh1t scared to just drive through a roadblock if I've been signaled to stop, especially with my family in the car....and then you get hijacked when you stop..... WTF SA?

guys I just found this article
http://www.thoughtleader.co.za/traps/2010/09/28/please-put-heading-9/
other than the long contents, the end of the article stated the followings:

Can police search you at a roadblock?
The answers is — in my opinion — yes provided they conduct the search on the basis and in the manner defined by our law.

Can you be arrested for refusing to comply — yes.

Can you sue them if they act outside their powers — yes.

-----

I think there's no way we can drive away from roadblocks without getting into trouble.

some more information: -these are from http://www.enough.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/YourRightsSouthAfrica-Enough.pdf
see point 2, you HAVE TO STOP if there's a formal road block.

When law enforcement officials indicate to you that they want you to pull over, you have the responsibility not to flee. In South Africa, you have the right to proceed to a police station if you are in any way uncomfortable with the following vehicle and whether it is a legitimate law enforcement vehicle or not.

o If you take a decision not to stop, but to proceed to a police station when being followed, you must not speed away. You must instead drive very slowly (i.e. at a speed of around 40km/h) and proceed directly to a Police Station.

o This applies only to instances where you are being followed by a vehicle that wants you to pull over. It does not apply to roadblocks and you are advised that not stopping at a formal roadblock has the potential to get you shot at.

o Please see full instructions for driving to a police station in the “practical advice for real-life situations” section.
