In the process of buying a 2007 m6 convertible smg 50 000km, still got 1.5 years of warranty left. FSH.

I would just like to know is there anything problematic with these vehicles, should i be scared once warranty is over?

smg gearbox? Do they break easy or what? Thats strange on an m6, a gearbox breaks easily.

Do a search. I believe it is the same box as on the M5. Has been discussed before on this forum and others...

Extend your motorplan for another 2 years if you get it. One electronic component goes on that thing let alone the SMG box and you got to go get some top quality lube when you paying...

ya, but once motorplan was done wanted to do stage 1. Maybe i'll just do software and extend the warranty. maybe should just leave it standard, it is an m6 afterall?

Its all up to you and your financial position, if you don't mind paying up should something go wrong then go for the stage 1 but in my opinion I'd rather get software done and extend the motorplan, it will be a real animal after software and you still got some piece of mind for a further 2 years. Just find out what the cost of extension would be...that they will only tell you like a month prior to expiry.

The only reason why I have not and will not buy an E60 M5 is due to the SMG gearbox, P1000 is absolutely correct.

If you can stretch that 50,000 over 2 to 3 years and keep the motorplan, Then I guess your good to go, as that M6 is like a wet dream, if your going to be using it as a daily driver and put 40,000 on in a years time, well I would think again.

I use a pimped corsa bakkie in the week, will post pics with new m6. So i dont plan on putting on mileage. i'll driver her once or twice a week. E.L small too, places arent far= low mileage

in 3 years i'll prob do 45 000km max

Kisho I would advise you strongly to extend the motorplan each time it is necessary. It is a must to retain the resale value of the car. My M5 is a 2005 model and at 50,000km to extend it for a year only cost me R11,000.
I was also uncertain if chipping the car was worthwhile. OB flashed it the day we spoke on the phone and I must say the difference in day to day driving is remarkable.

George is it possible for bmw to find out that i got software. i want to enjoy my m6 and not worry when it has a problem

is it a big power diff

to truly enjoy the m6 you need peace of mind. m6 parts and fitting have figures which will cause your bank to go into minus easily. so i was hoping to hear from someone who has software on the vehicle and has regular services and fixing on there vehicle under motorplan even though they have software.

You will not have motorplan issues with the software as the diagnostic does not bring anything up and the software does not cause any faults. A lot of people increase the rpm limiter which makes quite a difference, if you think the dealer might rev the car to 8500rpm then you might get into trouble but there is no reason why they should do that. Worse case you can get software with stock limiter in place.

george thats the answer i was looking for. but lets say the smg gearbox goes and you have software, if bm knew they would certainly not pay for it, so it is a risk in that sense, but how would they know? a bit confusing because i'm sure if they went looking they can find it.

and by the way is the power worth it
