Hi gents. i'm in the process of getting a 2007 m6 convertible, should be arriving next month this time. This is what i was thinking:

carbon fibre intake
decat
software

in that order. saw mikes intake on the v8 and it is beautiful.

Questions:

1.What is the best intake to get and where to get it, overseas ordering is not a problem
2. just decat or buy exhaust?

Don't by the ACS exhaust! Waste of money. Akrapovic is the best by a long shot. They did not have a system available for the M6 up until recently. Would have gone that route for the M6 as well, had that been the case.

Not familiar with any intakes for the M6. Apparently the standard box as with the M3 is very efficient. They normally just change out the air filter.

1. The best intake is the BMW one. The rest are mostly cosmetic. Throw in a drop in filter and you sorted.
2. 90% of the power from exhaust mods comes from the decat. Getting a decent quality exhaust will be more for the sound and a significant weight saving. Akrapovic is very light but also very expensive. I ordered the ASR Engineering exhaust and they stole R30,000 from me so stay away from them.

well it looks like the best option is the cheap option ( first time lol)

1.Ok so what is the best filters to buy?
2. is it a good idea to decat m6 and can youl always put the cats back?
3. what power can i expect once i do all these things?

Not too much IMO. I'm not a huge fan of extensively modifying NA cars. Gains aren't worth the money spent.

I changed mine for looks primarily. Got a few Hp here and there but hardly noticeable. You will see the cover is an exact mold of the OEM plastic one.

Do it for sound and looks, but don't do it for HP. If you want real gains, get supercharged. It's still expensive, but far cheaper than turbocharging.

sounds like a real f1 car, beautiful. i decided what i'm gonna do is actually go speak to a guy i know at bmw ( barely though) and just tell him i wanna do intake, exhaust, and chip and i wanna keep my warranty and see what he says. i only got 1 years warranty left and will extend with them if i can modify.
what do you think?

lol thats a good 1.If he says yes i'll do it and if he says no i wont. warranty on m6 is a must!!!!!!! if say yes that exhaust is a must.

look, you also have the option of returning back to stock just before services if they give you shit.

Intake - fairly easy
exhaust - a BITCH if you're going with a header back, but fairly easy if you're going with just a sec 3 (backbox)
software - can be reflashed?

There is always away around it.

software and intake can do with no stress wont reflash they wont know

exhaust- putting on and taking off pain in the ass ( and will prob just get back boxes)

decat- once you cut off, you can see straight away

I would love just do what i want, i mean life is short and its an m6 but without motorplan its not worth it.

I would love to know how people on the site deal with modyfing there cars that are still under motorplan?
