M54 Vanos

Wsup fellas!

How do I know if my Vanos is not performing optimally? I've replaced my PCV + hoses so the vacuum leak should be sorted. What else could cause low rev lethargy? Without 4000rpm I get zero performance and I have to use small throttle openings up to that point, wide throttle just causes hesistation. But at 4k, I get crisp throttle response and a nice shove in the back. Also now and again the engine stalls especially when started from rest on a steep incline. This behaviour seems to be randomly worse/better on any given day...

So what do you guys think? Vanos, Airflow Meter, Plugs etc?

HELP!!!!

check your DISA valve. Thats the black pastic box that is attached to the intake. Your air flow pipes run alongside it. Its easy to remove. Take out two torx screws and slide out. It has a butterfly inside which usually breaks. You can remove the broken part. Also a vaccume leak may develop on the disa gasket. U can use a good quality insulation tape around the gasket for a better seal when putting it back together.
The butterfly is usually closed and opens after 4000rpm when the air flow dynamics are altered to optimise performance.

Hi Whattiingh, doesn't your car just sound better after the vanos seal replacement? I did mine some months back and she literally roars again. The guys at Beisan Systems, particularly Rajaie is a freak for support. Any questions are replied in no time.
