M5 2006 E60

Hi,

I drove a 2006 M5 E60 on Saturday what a machine. I have my 2007 550i E60 which is also quite a brute on the road. Should I consider the M5? I see the value of the 550i is not great.

I have the 4.8is X5 witch has the same motor as your 550I...

There is jst something special about that V10...

The potential for the SMG box to fail scares me, maybe I've been watching too many youtube videos. My Dad's wanted an M5/M6 for the past year, just waiting for one with very low mileage to pop up.

And that's what scares me - finance the M5 but can I afford the repairs?

affording the car is the easy part, they have become so cheap,

You can pick up a clean example for around 250 to 320k

However.

Fuel is a major expense, she is extremely thirsty.

Tyres ect

Then, the gearbox, which is going to break will cost you like 120k

Then the motor, which you dont find second hand, but if you do, its also well over 50k, if not more

Then keep in mind that everything with an //M badge on it is tripple the price.

Maintanance on this thing is not cheap, but then, neither is that on the 550.

I would go do some extensive homework if I was you.

If you can afford the car as a garage queen, then you are going gto own the most epic vehicle ever created, if you buy this thing as a daily drive, you have too much money, and should just buy a F10

I don't drive the 550i much mainly week ends. Don't laugh but my daily vehicle is a Hyundai Getz 1.6i! So she (the M5) will be a garage queen that's for sure. Also you don't see many M5's in red!

I was offerred R 170k for the 550i which is a bit low!

Not maroonish at all. It's that sporty red with black leather - the car really stands out!
