M4 vs 335

Hey ladies and gents, I was wondering what is the difference between these two cars engines besides the m4 having more power etc than the x35. What I was thinking is that the m3/4 is like a seriously tuned x35 motor, or is that just a noob's thinking?

The M4 has a version of the N55 motor which is strengthened or uprated or whatever you want to call it... They refer to the M4 motor as S55

M4 obviously has a purpose built track setup, and if you see the videos that car goes sideways like magic

My guess would be strong internals, higher boost from factory, bigger FMIC, larger Down pipes, better injectors, etc, etc, etc

They would have learnt alot from the N54 and N55 cars when building the new M4 and M3.

S55 is way different to the N55 even the block is different being a closed deck design similar to the M54...

wow thanks every1 for the responses :=): . Do you guys know how tuneable the S55 motor is, or is it still to early to determine that.

Terry's 2015 M3 (from burger motorsport) in stock form dyno'd 427 WHP, he has since tuned it with E85 fuel to deliver 509 WHP. He actually posted the results yesterday. The M3/4 has twin turbos, they are small but the boost is allot higher. To reach the 509whp he set the boost at 28 psi :praise:

Well besides engine, that being only one part of the new M3/M4, there is a lot more under the skin engineering to create the beast.

A lot of weight reduction has been introduced, with the result the M4 weighs around 80kg lighter than the E92 M3. Trunklid, roof panels - all carbon fibre, bonnet and fenders are aluminium, even the seat structures are reinforced carbon fibre. A lot of lightweight aluminium is used in the chassis. The engine itself is 10kg lighter than the previous V8, bearing in mind the extra weight from twin turbos and additional cooling. A huge carbon-fiber boomerang shaped brace tying the front suspension towers to the radiator-core support enhances stiffness and underhood beauty.

Also the vehicle is much more torsionally rigid with a lot more aluminium and carbon fibre bracing used. Suspension and axles have been completely redesigned and is also lightweight. Then there is the Active M Diff, which the degree of lock between 0-100% can be adjusted within a fraction of a second to ensure the correct wheel is apportioned the right amount of torque to get drive out of corners. Perhaps, the most interesting feature of the new M3/M4 is the carbon fibre composite propshaft, which offers improved stiffness, strength and weight saving. The propshaft had to be strengthened to handle the extra torque of the new turbo motor, and therefore could not made stronger by increasing weight, throttle response is also improved by adopting the
CFC propshaft.

A lot of purists will scoff at the sound of a turbo M3, but one has to acknowledge the engineering brilliance built into the new M3/M4
