LESS IS ///MORE!

Refreshed for the 2025 model year, the G82 & 83-generation BMW M4 will get a few small changes in the new year.
A slight facelift and a bump in power are on the cards for the silhouette, while BMW is still holding strong to its classic configuration "for maximum driver involvement", as the 6MT remains in the line-up!

2025-bmw-m4-coupe-front-three-quarters-65b935f2e8d78.jpg

The base M4 still comes equipped with a 353kW version of the S58 engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, and rear-drive.
The Competiton RWD versions also remain unchanged, retaining the 8AT and 375kW.
While the Competition xDrive models, (Coupe & Vert) both benefit from a decent 15kW bump in power over the pre-LCI, making a total power output of 390kW! Offering a bit more "bang for buck".
Regrettably, BMW S.A have, for some time now, opted to bring only the Competition xDrive models into the country, as the lowest trim level on offer.
Thus, a base M4 with 6MT cannot be had... But who knows, one could possibly enquire for a special order???

As this is an LCI after all, most of the changes came through in the aesthetics department.
Both headlights and taillights get fresh designs for 2025 - with the front changing to a chevron-shaped DRL, moving away from the 3/4 DTM-style which we've all been accustomed to. And the rear now utilizing laser diode technology, lifted from the limited edition M4 CSL.
Also on offer are optional 825M staggered wheels, rendered in a monotone bright silver finish.

As we move to the cabin, you'll find a new flat-bottomed steering wheel with redesigned spokes.
Every M4 is now outfitted with the 12.3" digital gauge cluster, but it's the 14.9" touchscreen infotainment system that gets an upgrade, to iDrive 8.5. BMW’s latest software version featuring M-specific graphics and content, it also includes updated climate control, and an easier interface to navigate different functions.

2025-bmw-m4-convertible-front-interior-65b935e7630d9.jpg

The refreshed M4 launches globally in March 2024.
No info has surfaced regarding pricing for the S.A market yet. However, U.S pricing is expected to increase by at least 5% on the base price of every trim level. Which suggests around a (conservative) R100k bump for the S.A model offerings.

Thos rear lights look pretty amazing. Sadly still a complete dog at the front.

The G8x 2021 models will be going for around 1.4m by end 2025..bleak times for M enthusiasts. And Zar is looking to devalue to 25 in the next 3-5 years..

Anyone ordering it, please for the love of god don't spec that bonnet sticker. Different if it was painted/exposed carbon

This is truly a low point in BMW interiors with those screens.

Not sure what is up with the black non-carbon sills and lips. The side skirts in particular make the car look like it is sitting higher than it is.

Flat bottom wheel (if not already an M Performance part) will be a great retrofit item

Don't like the front lights at all, Definitely like the tail lights

Lament no local 6MT all you want, the reality is almost nobody would have bought it... I would like to see someone special ordering it though. Unfortunately when you go to BMW they are more interested in selling you a stupidly specced car that someone at HQ has wasted a build slot on instead of an actual individual... that or they just didn't want to deal with me and said they can't get slots?

The wheel I think will look better in real life than the pics.

I'm with you on the screen hate but, similar to manuals, it's a battle you've lost. Most consumers love more more more tech and screens. My GT4 is under a year old (ok, the basic model is more like 10yrs old!) But it feels like it's from a completely different time.

Also don't quite understand the gloss black sills etc. I've seen a lot of people move to respray them in body colour (including a certain CSL) and it looks waaaaaaaaay better!

This will be a short term problem for you but a long term problem for those who buy the current gen of cars (not limited to BMW) IMHO. The tech is fun for now but dates cars horribly. Every boutique manufacturer knows this and goes either super minimalistic on screens or even goes to the extent of hiding them. What mainstream manufacturers are doing is turning cars into items that will be as disposable as tech OR as locked in with microtransactions/subscription content as possible for fear the 'tech' stops working.

We also have this phenomenon where they want to have recycled materials in cars which makes no sense because would you rather not have plastic that lasts 50 years instead of 5 years (there's someone else who posted yesterday about his cowl disintegrating and his car rotting away on an F30... yet there are E46/E90s running around just fine. Greenwashing ends up being worse than the things that it's proponents claim to hate. All it does is give people doing nothing (and we are all doing nothing really) a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

The "tech" of the screens is also a party trick. I think it's important to distinguish between Driver aids, assistant integrations, cameras, safety tech etc which are GOOD and the proliferation of screens which is totally unnecessary for all the above and has become the thing that people are somehow convinced is a good idea.

After carplay and android auto what exactly is it that people who say they want the tech ACTUALLY want? I've asked that question MANY times now in many threads. "I am all about the tech" but WHY? and WHAT exactly is it that you want LOL. I am not even saying need because nobody "needs" any of it. You are excited for the first 2 weeks and then it's back to normal (even worse now cos manufacturers are playing with the limits of what the market will bear in terms of subscriptions as well).

I (obviously!) agree. It's funny, when I was shopping for my Z4M I specifically wanted one with a screen thinking I could retrofit or that it'd be fun, how wrong I was, the screens were (are!) horrid, 640x480 levels resolution.

I'd imagine the current stuff won't age as badly just because tech today is moving so much slower than it was 20yrs ago.
I was saying to my partner that when I first played GTA3 I felt like it was revolutionary, it felt "real". A whole city you could drive around, shoot at randoms, steal cars. AMAZING. Look back at those graphics, it's unreal how far we've come.

The new game coming out will just turn that same feeling up, but it'll never capture the feeling, I think something similar is happening on car infotainment - there's very little they can add, so they just make it look fancier, more bells, bigger screens, more random tech features.

Just on the tech thing, not sure if any of you watched Harry's Garage with the new i5 Xdrive Fishpaste Bottom Dollar Fanastico Uber Speciale M60 (he said the name was a mouthful so that's for dramatic effect right there), where he said that there was just too much, and he scrolled down the screen and there were 30 plus apps loaded up, and then too many lighting options for the interior, and too many options for moods apparently, and modes etc. They've gone nuts. My 760 has the updated 6WB cluster (I think that's the code) and it still has a modern yet classic feel about it. There's just enough information NOT to distract you.

I reserve the right to remain silent on the looks of these cars.

I dig it, sad situation about pricing with all these new cars...... 2.2 bar or thereoff gets you into a new m3/m4. Economic times are tough the super wealthy will buy these cars without batting an eyelid.

BMW also leaving a gap for chery, haval, baic etc to take the new car segment up to R700k, as their 1 series the very entry level model kicks of at R700k+

On a side note I see alot of used M cars sitting on showroom floors for months on end before being sold. Perhaps this high pricing nonsense is catching up with dealers ?

The dealerships got greedy and are now struggling. Sure the Rand devalued..but no one should be paying over a bar for 2020 F8x or 1.5 for a 2019 C63S.

The first lot of 2021 G8x have dipped under 1.5m. Doesnt make sense to pay R1.8m to 2m for these cars..the Euros pay 15% less..so we paying inflated prices. Sure we know why..but the dealership need to shoulder alot of the blame aswell.

A 2021 F8xshould be around 1.3 to 1.4m.

You hit the nail on the on the head with this one:

Agree in SA it seems everything must be inflated as if tax/vat is not already squandered enough and we must still fight inflation....

There is bound to be further dips I can't see how car prices can continue to sky rocket like this but then again this is SA after all.

Over the last 10 years..the German car sales have almost halved across all segments. WBC sold a 2019 M3 Comp for 950k..great condition..29k mileage. The dealerships are asking 1.1m -1.2 m for their Comp..that's a 200k jump..screw them to ...@#

I agree 1.1m -1.2m is not on...... That is way more than what I paid for a 2015 Full spec M4 back in 2017....
