M3 Motorplan Extension

I have a 2013 E92 M3 with 21,000km on the clock . My Motorplan expires at the end of August this year . Have just received a quote from BMW for R36k to extend for 1 year !!! Was just wondering what other members had done with regards to extending their Motorplans?? R36k seems very excessive for a 1 year extension!!!!

What kind of issues are those vehicles prone to getting?

R36k may seem like a bargain in comparison to coughing up for something major on a vehicle like that.

What cheaper aftermarket warranties are available that could cover the big stuff?

Im sure Brake rotors and pads cost more than 40k, let alone those big end bearings.

It is very simple.

Either the car will be fine and go to 120k no problem or you have a ticking time bomb that will cost 250k to put a new motor in (can be done for less). Yours being such low mileage you don't know yet.

So either you like to drive the car stress free - claim for small things such as brakes and services and that 36k will be used up quickly plus you have peace of mind knowing that IF anything goes you can simply call up BMW and they must sort it out.

This being said maybe 36k is a lot to fork out right now.....

Every time I see these I wonder if I have just been lucky. On such a low mileage car, well looked after and with no plans to skirt 80000km in a year I would do it if I was expecting a brake bill... unlikely you will be close to needing bearings in the year... if not brakes something close to that value. Extending my plan worked out extremely well in my favour but then my car sees way more mileage and associated wear and tear. Liquid Capital or similar plan might be an alternate option? I think if it was 15k I would go the full plan route.

Just my 2c

I have to agree with the above, after driving 15 of these German cars I really only had sh*t with one, it would seem that after the "glorious" m/plan there is no life to these cars and everyone sh*ts themselves, if it going to break you can be driving a Rolls Royce it can happen as well.

M/Plan does not last forever, drive your BMW and enjoy it, it seems some people are planning for the breakdowns after the M/plan expires WTF then don't drive BMW or are they that unreliable

Agree. If you want low costs and reliability, get a Toyota. If you want a German car, you need to pay the price...

You pay the extra for peace of mind. Aftermarket warranties will cover limited items and you may need to pay a portion (depends on which one).

It all comes down to how risk averse you are and whether you have R36k readily available to extend the plan.

:dunnoanymore: I personally think its a waste if you dont drive much - I for one paid the extra for my extension on my Z4M also very low mileage and did not use the motorplan once before it ran out again. so I believe rather put the cash in an account for a rainy day if you should have problems.

BTW It didnt make a difference to the value of the car when I sold (no Motorplan) - I got more than I paid for the car because of what car it is.

Yours is a rare case, most are not so lucky.

I understand your reasoning, But we talking M cars that generally hold fair value after Motorplan - especially in the cast of OP his car only has 21k on so I think the value should hold.
The problem with doing low mileage on motorplan is you dont get to see the benifit, if you do heavy kms per year then its benificial

So you do roughly 4000+ ks per year on your car; which is way below the normal expected 30 000Ks per annum over the 5year motorplan period.

Personally, i would find a good warranty that covers the most important components and budget for services and wear items if you plan to keep the car for another few years or permanently.

at 21,000km i think you are way better off putting the money away for a rainy day.

Realistically in the next year, how many KM you going to do? 5000km if that by the amount you have done already.

Assuming he bought the car from new, yes.
If he bought it at 10 000km 4 months ago, then no.
Buy motorplan.

OP, please confirm how long you have had the car and what mileage you have put on it.
