Hey guys,

I recently purchased an E46 M3. I'm looking at putting an intake on. Was thinking about the Afe, but its expensive..

Any suggestions on which intake to go for and where to get it?

Thanks!

Here are your options mate:

K&N Typhoon
AFE
Gruppe M
Eurosport

Theer's not much to be gained from After-market intakes esp in JHB.
But they do sound the business.

Thanks bud!

Where can I get one of these?

K&N can be ordered locally as well as the AFe
Gruppe M - Xcede can bring them in for you.
just depends on which one you want.

Hey man,I just recently put in a K&N 57 series performance intake on my e46 m3.You do feel abit more throttle response from it and if you don't have an exhaust system you will hear a more deeper tone on high revs.I got mine from Masterparts in Cape Town,I would really recommend them if you go for that intake.

They retail for around R3000,most guys in JHB want around R4000 or more but try Tune Tech in JHB,they might have stock. If not you can get it from Cape Town(Masterparts) for around R3250-3500 with delivery.

Yeah, with the de-cat you do feel abit more power and it sounds good. But if your car is still under motorplan you might wanna be careful with the de-cat(guys at BMW can give you a hard time about it) unless you got contacts there when booking it in for a service :).But I would say  for the de-cat!

This week end I just installed teh k&N .

Very happy with it...Loving the growl from 3.5k rpm..and I can definitely
notice a difference in power.

I would also look at turner motorsports as they carry an excellent Gruppe M replica

agreed with above, intake in JHB is a bit of a waste of money.... you are switching from sucking thin air through a straw to sucking thin air through a hose pipe... not gonna be back for buck dude... for the same money (+/-R6k) you could spray a 50 shot!!

I probably was one of the 1st to fit the K&N into an E46 M3 in the country and it made a good noise, Yes. But performance, no not really. We did plenty dyno's and the OEM system performed to within 3% of the K&N intake. Infact on some runs the K&N lost torque lower down in the rev range. You need to remember that the OEM system uses HP/LP type setup and the ///M engineers didnt waste millions by just slapping something on without doing research.

I think its the placebo effect you guys are feeling :)

Yep only gains is the sound it makes, not much gains to be had with an E46 I am afraid as the airbox is already that good, different story on the E36 though...I just managed to organise a group buy for the legendary Dave-F Kit here in the UK and got mine the other day and its phenomenal...If you do a search on youtube for Dave-F you'll see what I am talking about :)

Hey STK...I've also only heard good things about the Dave F Intake for E36. I am thinking about adding it to my E36 M3 3.2L (Euro) Track car.

Please would you point me in the direction of a good reliable supplier for it?

Also, do you have any additional info on the intake? Like HP gain? etc.?

Thanks a mil

I am afraid that you would only be able to get a 2nd hand one now.The group buy I organised was the last batch that Dave and his brother Bry are ever going to do :bawling:
With their kit I have been told that gains of 7-10hp are usual however there was one M3 EVO that got 15hp gains rolling road tested. If I see or hear of a kit going then I will let you know but they're rare as rocking horse poo.I can give you some details of the filter they use though and if you could get,or fabricate, a decent heatshield then you should be laughing
