Ok I guess best I get a quote to do the bearings:thumbdo:
I could complain there is a ticking sound, wonder if that would work?
You take it to a dealer and you tell him there is a ticking sound he will offer you Panado.

Bearing have a distinct sound which can in no way be confused as a tick bang/tock/ping/bong/bang.
Put some R30k in your pocket and you done

ive been quoted about 30k do extend my motorplan for one year. car is sitting 65k's and has just had a service and theres still enough life left in all the major service components eg; pads, disks etc, they can still go for more than a year before they need changing. so what do I do:

a) use the 30k to extend motorplan for one more year or
b) use the 30k to do my bearings instead

bearing in mind that my mileage is about 7000k's per year MAX.
what do I do?

Well you still have some time left on the current plan to try and score bonuses like suspension and clutch and similar wear and tear items that will need work down the line. If you spend R30k on bearings, then you know the engine is set for the longer term.

Other things that are known to be a costly item on these engines are throttle actuators.

i would extend the motorplan..drive the car more. if the bearings are still decent at the end of that..do bearings out of pocket.

Do the bearings and forget the renewal of the plan....make sure the car gets a good once over at the dealer before the plan expires....

Hi guys, considering buying a used m3 e92... I see there is various scares regarding rod bearing issues and have realised its a serious problem and as part of preventative maintenance would like to have them replaced.

Most people have stated have them done before.something happens, but I havent heard of any recommended RMI approved /agents that can do it properly for a fair price. I would preferably would like some sort of warranty for the repairs and someone that has done it countless times.

Can you guys recommend a few machanics that can do it properly for a fair price situated in Cape town?

I would like to obtain qoutes?

Please help!!!

SMG in century city did my Z4M’s bearings, I changed the oil pump as a precaution as well...pricing wasn’t too bad...

If the oil pump measures within tolerance no reason to change it and it is my opinion for what it may be worth that you should have been advised accordingly.
BMW M engine oil pumps do not typically fail.

Has anyone gotten their Rod bearings done by Tune-Tech? I recently bought an Alpine White 2009 pre Lci E92 M3 DCT (75600km) and I am having sleepless nights about these Rod bearings so I just want to bite the bullet and get it done. Tune-tech quoted a reasonable price but I want to know if they are legit. RG Motorsports were 10K more and I feel like I'm getting a little ripped off.

Any help or pointers will be amazing will be amazing

@F21GP has mentioned that he has used tunetech on a few occasions for bearings, maybe send him a PM.

Hi bru

Yes @Avi135 is correct, I have had bearings done there more than once. Had them do my E60 M5 and my e93 M3 I used to have. Those cars are still running strong today 3 years and 1 year respectively. I had no issues with them and they do another oil change after 1000km at no additional cost. They provide a 12 month warranty on the work for this job which is cool.

They recently just saved another v10 M5 that wore down to the copper on all shells and had a rumble, they were able to machine the crank. I trust them as they work on all my cars even motorplan ones as the service intervals BMW give are far too long for me.

There are others out there this has just been my experience, hope it helps.
