hi guys,

trust everyone is well. i need some assistance everyone here.

what is the normal lifespan of a Vanos system on the e46 m3's?
like at what km's on the clock should or do they generally start giving issues?

all feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I stand to be corrected, but there are multiple areas of failure on the E46 M3 VANOS system, all of which can be remedied permanently using the Besian Systems solutions.

1) VANOS Seals - these degrade over time, the result being a slight loss in torque, slight increase in fuel consumption, and slight loss in engine response. The longer its left, the worse it gets I think. Usually it won't throw an error, the engine just won't perform optimally.

2) Broken Hub Tabs - perhaps the most serious issue as this can result in bits of broken hub entering the bottom of the engine. The exhaust hub (on the end of the exhaust cam shaft) connects to the vanos oil pump disc via two tabs. These tabs are known to break off, there isn't really a consensus as to when it can happen. You can only know for sure by removing the VANOS system to inspect the condition of the hub tabs.

3) Solenoid Pack failure - when these fail, I believe that might cause an actual error code on the diagnostics.

4) VANOS rattle - audible rattle from the vanos unit

After the first 20000Kms the seals perish.

Beisan seals are engine lifetime
