So I imported a flowed and polished head with titanium retainers and a custom made cam. I was assured it was a straight bolt.
So I get it started in Feb, went to some of the top dbn guys to install the cam but alas there was a problem. The cam holes were not drilled to factory spec.
From the get go the mechs said the cam timing will never be 100%, hence it would be a waste going with the cam. However I sent the head to the guys at "Old Dutch Racing" and they confirmed the head was done to a tee.
Following that i gave it to my own mech and he fitted everthing perfectly. He sent it to O.V Harward and he marked everything.
Anyway, I drove the car under 4000 rpm for like 150km, no issue at all. I sent it to a tuner in dbn, whose name i wont mention, and after 2 weeks he claims the car has picked up a missfire as he was going to put fuel in it. It then refused to start but I was assured there was no noise from the bottom end.
After starting it myself i found it sounded like a tractor!!
So we pull the head and discovered a valve dropped and piston number 1 is badly damaged with some bore damage as well!
I just want to get any advise to exactly what could have ground and where about. Could it be from the fitting of the cam? Like cam timing being so far out it dropped a valve or was the tuning possibly not done correctly?
I drove the car myself for 150km and not a sound or jerk. I basically gave the tuner a smooth running car and he gave me a non runner in return!
To those who have more experience what whould u suggest caused this? Please any help be appreciated, thanks.
