Hi Guys. Don't know if anybody can assist me. My e36 M3 has no power at all I had the motor re done and stuff. car came back with still no power.. the idle fluctuates either very high or very low.. and the consumption is gone totally out.. does anybody what could be possible problems.. I was speaking to someone in the week and they mentioned the computer box might be the problem.

It is possible that it can be software, maybe have BMW reflash it?

The other things I can think of is vacuum leaks or the MAF or o2 sensors.

Hey bud a mate of mine had a similar problem with no power and high fuel consumption on E36 M, also thought it was the computer box, replaced the computer box and still the same, eventually turned out it was the fuel pump causing the problem, replaced it and now the car is running sweet, so maybe check that out as well.

how was the car perfoming before engine rebuild? if all was well then you can rule ECU out. if started after the rebuild then theres a lot to check. first ascertain if the mech did a good job, which i doubt from your problems. next can be vanos and cam timing, check if O2 sensors are plugged correctly and then MAF.....

I had the idle issue especially when I idle at robot it it be unstable... cleaned all the sensors and the issue went away...

I also need to flash my software to standard because my fueling is insane...
how much does bmw charge?

sounds like a vanos issue

I had the vanos checked 1st. and it was working well that's what I was told

I initially had a piston slap. and obviously the car was not running well at all very dead. that's when I decided to do the engine and stuff. but before that the car was running better before I had the engine done. can cam timing pull it out by so much?
To give you an idea of how dead my car is when it came back from after I did the engine I raced a friend of mine with the same car as mine and he gave me easily about 2 or 3 cars lengths. its the exact same car.

Vanos or timing issue. Does it battle to start? Hows the power over 4,000 rpm?

Yes sometimes it battles to start. power is dead all round. it accelerates very slowly

The s50b32 engines are very complex to set up correctly on cam timing and vanos spline shaft positioning.

I would have cam timing checked and spline shafts depth in the cam gearboxes first.

Valve clearances being too tight will also present with issues.

Equally you may wish to have voltage at idle and throttle position checked with INPA.

In closing a brand new motor is not recommended to be pushed to red line as it takes away from its longevity.

Good luck in your search to resolve the issues.

Im going to have the computer box tested. if the computer box is a problem does anyone know if its worth putting a management system in?

A big NOOOOO! best solution is to fix whats broken in terms of ECU otherwise you may ne inviting even more problems
