M3 CSL Precautionary Oil Change

Guys,

It looks likely that I will drive the CSL back now (rather than getting a transporter)

As the car has been sat for the last 6 months (and last service was 12 months ago) I was wondering if I should do a precautionary oil change before driving her down ?

If so, any recommendations for dealers in Durban or Bloem.

where is the car now?
If close to Howick I will do the oil change just to get up close and personal with the car... I have the correct Liqui moly oil in stock and can get the oil filter no problem :)

lol its an oil change... it involves loosening a 2 bolts and and changing the oil filter a few O rings and washers :) really not hard to do...

only bad thing is the dip stick is under the airbox on the csl but that gives you a chance to check the air filter at the same time...

If you more comfortable using a dealer you can take it to SMG in Pietermarizburg

An oil change is not the most difficult thing to do, and yes Sean has the expertise to help you with an oil change.

I won't take it to a dealer. :nono: When Sean does it for you, at least you'll know that everything that needs changing will be changed.

Car is still in Qwa-Qwa.. Waiting for funds to clear, so realisticlly this should be tommorow.

some people arent going to agree with this, but dont use any oil other than Castrol TWS.

This is not to say this is the god of oil, but it is similar to having FSH IMO.
I promise you, that the people that might buy this car in the future will ask "what oil have you been using?"

It has probably lived it's life on TWS, no reason to change this now.

+1 on using TWS for the oil change...

Though Liqui Moly does have a product that's absolutely bang-on spec with TWS - so it's much of a muchness.

I'd use TWS more for consistency, if you ever plan on selling the car, etc.

TWS's formula has been changed about a year ago to satisfy the green parties.

A lot of S54s all over the world suddenly with camshaft/rocker failures.

Must be coincidence...............

Like Billybob says the LM has pretty much the same properties as the TWS (google Data sheets if you want to have a look) however i prefer LM because i have yet to see sludge issues with LM oil...

If you really want the TWS we can get some with the oil filter and put that in but i have the LM in stock and a number of M customers that use it and are very happy with it...

That is rather interesting.

I'm a LM fan and usually change to the equivalent LM product at my first oil change.

In the case of my E46 M3, was going to stick to TWS (as did the previous owner), however, this does pose an interesting view... maybe I should use LM instead.

BTW, plan on doing oil change halfway between the normal scheduled intervals, as I personally think that 25K is too long.

Oil sitting 6 months go bad? Sure its due for a change now that its a year old, but I also dont think it will be the end of the world to drive on this oil just to get you home.
Unless I am missing something here. For me Im also on TWS, but its because I like to keep things OEM unless I can find something that well surpasses OEM standards. For me they seem like much of a muchness.

Look I am not saying you should not stick with TWS (or Edge Professional 10W60 as they are branded nowadays), because it is still a very good oil and I would not have wanted anything else in the S54 if they stuck with the old recipe, but truth is they didn't - and their intentions are not always to make it better for the consumer.

And I agree with halfway interval services

MSM, 25K is way too long. 12.5k is perfect.

And yes, Moranor knows his stuff. He's a trusted Fanatic.

I've changed the oil on my M3 by myself a few times. VERY VERY EASY.

Moranor won't let you down!!!:thumbs:
