Hi All

I'll be attending the press launch of the M2 in SA next Monday (18th April).

Now obviously the new M2 has been getting a lot of interest the world over, but if you have any questions about the M2, post below and I'll try get answers for you!

Please find out why the signature M mirrors are missing from the car?

There was(is?) an M2 at the Midrand BMW on new road, saw it about two weeks ago.

Not sure if it's still there, "Property of BMW SA" sign on the dash.

So according to the engineering designer (who also did the 1M coupe btw) the M mirrors didnt provide that much of an aerodynamic advantage and they looked odd on a smaller car so they left them off. Plus they openly admit they've left off cosmetic bits all over in order to keep costs down. Costs being relative in this case!

Car already costs 792k or 842k base and that is with cosmetic bits left out to cut costs?! That is sad. Still miss the M mirrors.Thanks for the feedback waylander

No probs, 800k is a lot for sure, but an M3 is in the region of 1.3mil and this car uses so many parts and underpinnings from the other M cars that to keep it below 1mil they have to cut corners somewhere. Plus I'd sacrifice mirrors for that trick LSD any day of the week...

They say its not a limited production model so theoretically they have "unlimited" available, however they'll have had to pre plan numbers for manufacture and allocation in advance so I doubt there will be an excess of them around any time soon. Plus manufacturers always like to have less than demand to push the hype machine. Expect autotrader to have a few of these available soon at crazy prices!

No i want it on at the same price! they can cut some of their profit..lord knows they're making an absolute killing. Its not like they even had to develop a b58 for this.

Well their sales figures are up around 30% so they really don't have much motivation for it...
