For starters, a CVT does not require a clutch. DCT has two. :=):

A dual-clutch transmission, (DCT) (sometimes referred to as a twin-clutch transmission or double-clutch transmission), is a type of automatic transmission or automated automotive transmission. It uses two separate clutches for odd and even gear sets.

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) (also known as a single-speed transmission, stepless transmission, variable pulley transmission, or, in case of motorcycles, a twist-and-go) is an automatic transmission that can change seamlessly through a continuous range of effective gear ratios.

If the car was normal aspirated I would consider manual. In turbo cars manual makes no sense.
Be prepared to take a HUGE HUGE hit when you try to sell your car. (If you get a buyer!). You mentioned you don't keep the car longer then 2 yrs.
club motors sat with an m3 for over six months eventually dropping the price by 100k to try and get rid of it.
Think about it carefully bud. It's not a cheap car and now the car might be scarce but in two years who know?

Buy what you like and enjoy. 1M's are all manual and everyone was/is still happy with them.

You've got more pedals than balls right there:roflol:

It really is a personal choice, no right or wrong. I dont buy a car with my mind more with my heart so resale is not something i consider at the time of purchase, also my next car plan on keeping at least 5 years. I could be wrong but I think manual sports cars after or towards the end of warranty holds better value then dct.

I'm concerned with the fascination of balls in here. Why would I want more than 2? :=):

Im getting an M2. Ive always had manual transmission cars. Now for the 1st time im thinking of going Dct.
Im torn though, I have many reasons why i want the DCt buti have many reasons why i want the manual.
- Pros for Dct- (counter arguments in brackets)
- its faster (this is an issue when you racing for instance a G7R) (but ive had my M235i for 2 years and ive had maybe 3 races in 2 years, I dont go "racing"as it were)
- in traffic its a far easier drive. (but ive done 17k on my M235i in 2 years, i have a diesel a4 for work duty)
-Launch control
-blaaps on up shifts
-better fuel economy (i dont give a sh#t about fuel economy i have a company petrol card)
- far better resale
- the bint can drive it more easily when we go out and ive had one too many to drink. ( i have a goodfellas membership, so no need for anyone to drive)
- Most important factor is i can get a car when they launch. dealership reckons they will get at least 2 M2's on launch and im 2nd on the list. but they reckon almost 100% of launch cars will be Dct. if i want manual ill have to wait.

downfall on Dct
- I drove an M4 dct with Akra pipes this morning and i was expecting it to be an event. it wasnt. I felt very uninvolved. i had a shit load more fun on my way there in my manual M235i. theres something about preparing to snap into 2nd when it gets to the top of the revs and then again into 3rd and then blipping it back into 2nd to take a gap or sharp bend. isnt that what M cars are about?

the pros on Manual
- that feeling of being connected. its hard to describe to people that arent manual enthusiasts. (if all you looking for is being the fastest then you wont be worried about this, but i dont really race) however i still want the car to reach its full potential. here in lies my problem.

I realize it probably seems that I'm set on manual but i want one of the 1st cars and I want it to be quick, which Dct helps with immensely.

So what does the world of BMW enthusiasts think?
just a comment of Manual or Dct doesnt help any 10 year old could tell me that.
I would like to know why, and have you driven Mcars in manual? and in dct?
why then if you had a bar to spend on a car would you go either route?
think about it as if you were walking into the dealership.
I always said I would always get a manual but now thats its my money and Im in the situation i found myself 2nd guessing that. resale is a big one, SA is auto crazy on premium cars, less than 1 in 10 M4s in SA are manuals. so reselling is an issue, I only keep cars for 2 years max..
On a side note, Which dealer are you ordering from ? My dealer gave me the option to spec the M2 and just wait for the allocation to come through. He recons you will be able to order them straight away on the first bunch even.

I also spec'd my own car but if u want that exact spec u gonna have to wait.
All the first cars are arriving for delivery mid April.
It takes 3 months to go from spec to delivery.
Thus this means that all the cars arriving in April are pre spec'd by BMW SA.

So if you waiting to get your own exact spec'd car it will only arrive at least 3 months after mid April. If u lucky.

To add onto that.
Yes you have spec'd a car but it hasn't be allocated to the build schedule.
Non of the BMW dealers in SA can do this yet..
This is why I say I will wait to see what cars the dealer gets allocated with.
They will get 2 or 3. If I'm happy with the spec I will take one.
If not I'll pass and wait for my own spec'd car to be built and delivered. Which will be a while from now. Maybe august..

or your girlfriend leans over on to your lap and you have to say, sorry babe, I have to change gears, you will once again regret going manual.

If you need your girlfriend to entertain you wile driving, the car fails miserably in the fun factor.
