Move with the times. DCT is superior in every way.

If you disregard driver involvement, control and less weight then sure.

Nothing is all things to all men. Nothing I like more than heel-and-toe downshifts from 5th to 2nd on my favorite on-ramp...

Point and squirt just doesn't intrigue me after the third time.

I felt very involved in my DCT coming from a life of manuals.

You have to ask yourself, why are all the hypercars, supercars so on and so forth going DCT or the equivalent?

The excitement on the test drivers faces doesn't lead me to believe that the dual clutch autos offer no driver involvement.

0-x times and lap times.

Great point! I saw a test driver smile while driving a truck. Must be a very involving ride!

You like it, I dont. Luckily we don't all think the same, but my arguments are better:rollsmile:

Have you consider a Cayman GT4? That would simplify your transmission decision. You also won't win every drag race, on the seldom occasion that you partake in one, but every journey will put a smile on your face and you will definitely be involved in the driving experience.

Different levels of excitement. Don't take my word for it, ask Chris Harris

With due respect to our sisters , I will buy DCT if my wife or mother will be occasionally driving the vehicle . I have already booked. Manuel because my car wont be shared by female drivers. I will advise reese130 to rather wait because selling a DCT m2 will set him back 30 % of his purchase price.

DCT ... Held on to the MT ethos for years but the new DCT's are better in every way. If your M4 experience wasn't great did you have it in max settings and shifting on the paddles, because there is no way on the track a manual will be quicker or more involved in my opinion.

Aside from the convenience in the crap traffic and resale as you mention you also only need one money shift and that's your manual broken, my 2c

This is a hard one. From my experience going from manuals to smg was a big changed. I miss the proper control you have on inclines, slowly moving in traffic and the instant gratification when quick shifting a perfect shift. But at the end the dct will be faster an superior in every way. I mostly find myself driving manual with tiptronic on the actual gearshifter and not the paddles to bring back some of the involvement. However, I do prefer the extreme shift the box makes when really gunning it, something no human can do.

Either way, doesn't matter what you choose you will love it. As far as I know the M4 does have ref matching in manual and so should the M2.

There is a video on yt where 2 guys compare their M4s Manual and DCT to one another.

Go for DCT...I've had loads of manual cars and even though people say they are more "engaging" and fun to drive....this is true when really hauling or when you're purposely out to have fun....most of the time you will be driving normally in and out of traffic and the DCT is perfect for that...don't get me wrong...it's not boring and can be fun too.

New technology and higher resale values seal it for me....

Ps, there's nothing better than passing someone while flipping through the gears with your right hand and waving at them with the left

Pho3nix Ive seen that Video and in the end the M4 Dct owners says that if he were to order his car again he would order it in manual..
even though when they race the Dct car wins..

thanks for all in the input.
im still undecided. Im gonna wait to see what allocations they have when the cars arrive..

Hi, Within the bmw brand i have had manual, smg and dct.To answer your question, I have just ordered a new car last week, arrives in may and its manual. Dct is fun initially but for me got boring after a while. when i had dct missed having manual 80% of the time. Take manual and enjoy it while you can

When you having that occasional drag race or TLGP, and your buddy or opponent has the DCT and he leaves you in the dust, you will soon forget the "so-called" and overstated driver involvement of the manual.

Or perhaps you are sitting in traffic, or you take your car to the track, or you wanting to sell your car, or your girlfriend leans over on to your lap and you have to say, sorry babe, I have to change gears, you will once again regret going manual.

The most important point, "your girlfriend leans over on to your lap and you have to say, sorry babe, I have to change gears, you will once again regret going manual." :roflol:

Rhys,

Just order the Manual and be done with it!

Who cares if you are the 2nd or the 10th person with an M2.
