I decided to write a little DIY on this one:
With all the road construction going on in the PTA/JHB area, a stone hit one of my driving lamps :banghead:. Pretty much cheesed off I went to the stealers and got a nice quote in access of 2k.
There are lots of nice lights for my car on eBay, but shipping from the US is just extra ordinary. The lenses were advertised on AutoStyle, so I gave it some thought and decided to make my own lenses.
I marked the shape (freehand - nothing is perfect) onto the 10mm sheet, and cut the profile with the router plunger depth set at 7mm.
The lens on the right was not broken and were used to obtain a more accurate profile.
After sanding down with 320 / 600 / 2000 papers, I polished them up with Brillo (Brasso or silvo should also work).
A dash of Silicone and its all set.
Now my baby just needs a nice wash.
So far it lasted more than a year now and I doubt if a stone will crack a 10mm piece of perspex. :nono:
It took me 1 1/2 hours per lens.
All the best !
