M badges on non-M cars

This has probably been discussed before, but what are your guys opinions on putting M badges at the back, or the 3 lines on the grills of non-M cars?

I'm of the opinion that any M badges and stuff on a stricly non M or M sport car is a bit ridiculous, but M badges on M sport cars, are fine. People shelled out extra for a car with M performance parts and the look, and are proud of it.
A true BMW enthusiast will know it's not an M car. Like and M3 or something, so who cares? I see people getting a lot of vlak for putting on M badges on M-sport cars.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

Think each to their own, I do believe though that on a normal spec it is a bit silly. On a Msport there are "M" badges in places so on Msport if done in the right way it is okin my book. My 530d Msport I de-badged the rear and put a M badge in its place, nothing else so it just says "M" not M5 which would be stupid. Also have the small M logos on the front fenders behind the indicator flashers.

I have an M-Sport.... the first weekend of ownership all the M badges were removed.

Each to their own, but in my opinion, I drive a BMW 335i.... If i wanted to put an extra badge on my car I might as well put a N54 badge on the back, because it has more place on the car than an M badge.

Now that I've answered this, I'm going to put an i7 sticker on my i3 laptop because it's the same colour as lenovo's i7 laptop! :rollsmile:

Everyone has their own taste.

My personal opinion on putting M badges on the front grill or the boot (where model designations are) is that you are not fooling anyone. Edit: ..and they tend to look out of place IMO.

Yeah I hear what you other guys are saying. For example, if I ever got an M sport, I'd consider debadging the back, and putting on the ///M
I wouldn't be trying to make people think I'm driving something I'm not, but I just like the differentiation from the sport model

Well if you're referring to me as cupcake, I drive a 118i, and would never put an M badge on that :roflol:

But if it's an M performance vehicle, there's a differentiation between that and a non-M version of the same car?
It's not like anybody actually thinks you're driving an M3, rather that you're stoked about your M sport car. I don't consider that pretending.

i had created a thread about this not long ago. while im in agreement with the OP...i can sum it up easily..

look at it this way:

1 - take a minute to think about what the M badge represents, what makes it so special?

2 - now, with that in mind, look at the 320i next to you with the M badge on the back, the two badges on the front fenders, and the 3 stripes on the front...and see if anything adds up to what the M badge represents from the point above.

if the answer adds up correctly in your mind, then good for you. if it doesnt, then you'll be looking at all these cars thinking: "what a moron"

Haha yes, very true. I also think it's BMWs answer to how Audi does it with their RS and S models. They had to keep up, and give more potential drivers the "premium M sport" feel. Hence the M badges that the newer M sport cars actually come with.

Sorry, wasn't referring to anyone in particular, just ranting.

Also, there is nothing wrong with a 320i, it's a decent car, but don't stick ///M badges on it.

The stripes on the grill can be done to any car as it's not what brands the car in my opinion. Don't agree with ///M badges on non-M cars. The Msport comes with ///M badges on the door sills, the steering wheels, the rims, and that's enough. The only car that should have a ///M badge on the bootlid is a proper ///M.
