this is my 1988 e28 520i, my "normal" car is a 2004 320d motorsport!! i bought the e28 about 2 years ago, fitted the 17" wheels and the front spoiler to give it a bit more "sporty" look, unfortunately the engin is anything BUT sporty!! after thinking long and hard and looking at all my options, i decided to fit a 4.0l lexus v8 at the end of the month!! i bought the front spoiler as a e28 spoiler, but when it arrived at my home, it turned out to be e12 spoiler, so i decided to modify it to fit my e28!! i had to cut it in half, add about 40mm in the middle and fabricate openings for the turn signal lights, lot of work, but i think it came out pretty nice!!

I know the lexus V8 is the cheaper route, but why not rather go for a BMW V8, then at least you are keeping it BMW.

the lexus conversion won't really be the cheaper option, but maybe it will be in the long run!! i would have love to keep it bmw, but i already have a lexus v8 engin!! :sorry:

O well, though it is not too bad it is still a V8 after all and you can't really go wrong with that, good luck with the conversion and remember to post plenty of pics.

i worked out that a bmw v8 conversion and the lexus v8 conversion would cost basically the same, between R25 000 and R30 000 if you do it yourselve!! but the lexus engin will be much newer with a lot less kilo's than the bmw engin and then if you have any problems with any of the two of them, it would be cheaper just to fit another lexus engin than to fix the bmw v8!! anyway, i don't know what time it is in pretoria, but it is past twelve in cape town and i need my beauty sleep!! i'll try to put as many pics as i can, i've searched the net and can't seem to find any pics or info of anybody that has done a lexus v8 conversion in a e28 bmw???

Well I think you could do a M60B40 conversion for less than that actually, what you do is you just buy a e32 740i, they usually go for a lot less than R30k, then you can also drive it see what the motor is like, unlike just buying a motor. The you can just swap most of the bit over to your car. Of course it is true that the lexus one will be cheaper in the long run.

Pretty much the same time here, shouldn't still be up as I need to be at work tomorrow, errr, later today

i thought about buying a v8 bmw and just swop all the parts into my e28, but i really am a huge bmw fan and that would have meant that another bmw ends up on the scrapyard (eg 740i), and that i did'nt want on my conscience!! with the lexus engin i don't have to butcher any other bmw and if some one wants to change the e28 back to bmw in the future, it would be fairly easy to do!!
