LPG/Diesel

Good day to all the lovely people,
Well eventually my LPG kit arrived from Aus, took me a few days to fit it!!!! lol
Drove the car back from Durban (Ballito) and had mixed emotions, in my opinion I did not get the power gains they advertised but maybe I was expecting too much? I must admit I seldom had to change down out of 6th gear and the throttle response was MUCH sharper. My fuel gauge said I used just under 1/2 a tank, I filled up as I got home, it took 43 litres of Diesel and 12 litres of LPG- 644 kms. I generally set my speedo cruise @ 130km/h. My computer said I did an average of 6.9l/100km.
I think I need to get it on a dyno to get some true figures, so if there is anyone out there that is interested and has a dyno that can do 4x4 cars.............................. I'm skint at the mo!!!! :fencelook:

Interesting... 43litres is less than half tank, is it a 100 lt tank . Have done a similar trip prior to fitting the kit? Were you expecting better or worse?

Hey Sash,
it is supposed to be a 65 l tank, but I've been 'charged" for up to 78 litres once in Nylstroom!!!!!!! lol
I suspect it is around the 65-70 l mark. I think some petrol stations rob us.
On previous trips, going on my OB computer, coming back from Durban it's generally around 8.4l/100km, this last trip showed 6.9l/100km.

One of the tests I did was to hold the RPM @ 2000, and sw the gas system on. The RPM goes up just passed 3000.
I can also feel a very big difference on the acc pedal, the response is much quicker.
I thought I would get more power than I did ( claims of up to 40% ) but there is still quite a lot I can experiment with on the tuning side of it. The system ECU has 3 tuning pots, so time will tell.

hehe, i have had 63 litres put into my 60L tank once. I do believe some stations rob us. I think the guys who fill up jerry cans for long trips will probably see it most often, 20L can takes 21L etc.

I think a dyno with the system off and on will be the best way to see the gains. Bum dyno's dont seem to contribute much to statistics...lol

Is it as easy as flipping a switch for it to use the mix?

Yeah I agree, the system has a fuel gauge and sw all in one that is in the cab. I'll take some pics and put them up as soon as I have finished "tuning" it.

Testing the system tomorrow, going to Botswana, Francistown, Orapa & Gabarone, over 2000 km, so we'll see how it goes. I am towing a trailer so it will be very interesting.:fencelook:
