lowering springs

im thinking of getting springs with about a 40mm drop im just wandering if there is anything you get that can make lowering springs height adjustable?
also what springs would be good and how much am i looking at?

im going to do weight reduction so the car will ride high on standard springs but because im not going to put a huge amount of power in the car any time soon i cant justify spending 20k on coil overs

coils overs are bloody expensive....

i would suggest eibach springs but the lowest springs you get are 35mm... well that was when i last checked

they are quite pricey but well worth it because the ride in the car doesn't change

why dont you try to get springs that come with the sportpack or individual models?

the problem is im doing the weight reduction is stages so i will have to adjust the height after every step...
if i cant get anything im thinking of getting something machined that will fit under the springs that i can adjust when i need it.
im not sure if it would work so id rather just buy something if i can

hmmmm :thinking:

you get something called spring boosters.... its little rubbers that fits between the coils its actually quite cheap....

you can use that as a temporary fix till you complete your mods

ive seen those on autostyles web site...i dont trust them with anything
maybe i should just make some urethane spacers and put them under the springs seems like a better solution dont like the idea of stuffing things into the springs

just found what im looking for its called a 'Sleeve over kit' its a sleeve that fits your standard shocks and makes them height adjustable like coil overs you just have less adjustment

Tell me more about these sleeve over kits please man. I am looking for a 20mm drop on my e36 318i. Not for performance or better roadholding, just for looks. Also, it is a daily drive, needs to be fairly comfy.

well they cost about 3k so not much more than normal lowering springs but you can adjust the height the same way you do for coil overs the only ones i have found so far are made buy a company called Ground Control they make the sleeves to fit Eibach springs so the ride should be good...

looks like import parts could get them for you but im not sure what bmws they make for so far have only found for m3 but i have not looked that much

looks like they do make for all e46 you can even choose your spring rate
but the bmw ones are a bit more GC sells them for $429.00 not sure what thye would cost here
you also have to remove of stock spring seat in the front so its not just a bolt job
they give you up to a 40mm drop
and you can fit them to some decent adjustable shocks later

im not sure what to go with yet if i make some urethane spacers it will be cheaper and i can just cut them down if i want to go lower its not like ill be changing the height that often i could even sell them if people needed them...

anyway is good to know whats available im sure these sort of kits will become more common because most people dont need a set of real coilovers but would like to adjust their height.
