Low battery warning

Guys this evening I was playing a new CD in my shuttle.

Then the yellow battery light came on on the dash and idrive screen read battery charging very low!

Does this mean my battery is on its way out, or does it have to do with the alternator?

:ty:

The battery on my 330d decided it was done with life last Saturday, no warnings, no hint of an issue to crank, except when it just wouldn't.

Connect a voltmeter to your battery, check reading, start your vehicle, and check the charge rate. It could be your alternator, but then again, depending on the age of your current battery, it could be that.

Or, stop by a Battery Centre and have it checked.

If memory serves me correct, that's an oem battery in there, I did not ever change the battery while I had the car.

Agreed, battery centre should check everything for free if memory serves correct?

And who listens to CD's nowadays anyway?

Just kidding, I get what youre saying and feel the same. LOL!

Although I have the F/L in my car.

But I am using the aux jack from the phone.

had mine checked and everything past but the battery was done, if the battery is old most probably is going, if you have an amp meter check if it loses then picks up charge

get yourself an "Avo-metre"
Static volts 12.5v give or take
start
Afterwards charging volts 13.5v give or take

If I understand correctly less than 12.0v static means battery drain, or battery cannot hold its charge
less than 13.5v (give or take) means alternator related, probably voltage regulator

IMHO ..under normal operating conditions, the battery doesnt directly provide the power source, but rather just acts as a dampner to voltage shocks output from the Alternator

Also use the aux. But it becomes a pain to change tracks on the phone all the time.

If your car is still starting and driving on consecutive days, it could also be the voltage regulator

Something to consider is driving short distances often.

This would mean that the battery has not had time to recharge properly from starting before being switched off and started again.
