Loud rattle on full turn in D and R, tensioner idler or powersteering pump

Hi guys,

I had a loud rattle on full turn in D and R
Took it to BMW they wanted to sell me a powersteering pump of r12k

I asked them to change the idler/tensioner pulley and belt first.

In case it is the powersteering pump has anyone experienced this loud rattling noise on full turn (you put maximum pressure on belt)

If its is faulty, is there a cheaper option, to either get a second hand one from somewhere or the original part at a lot less than R12k?

Thanks

Contact Auto Bavaria Midrand, you can find their details on the site. They will assist with getting OEM parts at discounted prices.

Alternatively you can look at options from Goldwagen.. If you're based in Jhb, give @Danny@dscmotorsport a Private Message.

Could be your dampener pulley breaking up! On my son's old 320d had a rattle in drive standing still and after replacing fan belt tensioner and pulley it turned out to be the crankshaft dampener pulley which was replaced a year previously being out of round and making the tensioner make the noise.

Best bet, between dampened pulley or the tentioner, defenately not the pump, something fail there, it will either scream loudly, smoke or leak a lot of oil.

It seems to have been the tensioner/pulley. Replacing it most of the noise is gone.

However the alternator pulley also seems on its way out as also has some kind of mechanism in it. I still feel a slight vibration through my gass pedal.

Ohh, so that's what I've been hearing on my vehicle at idle and very low speeds  :fencelook:

I'm definitely sure it is also related to the pedal vibrations I feel at >120km/h

Will follow up on the suggestions, thanks  :ty:
