Losing Coolant on e46

hey guys,

I've noticed my car losing water (very slowly) over the last week or so. After doing some searching it looks like the first thing to check is the expansion tank. There's no water marks down the side of the tank so I'd like to check under it - what is the best way to do that? Is it possible to get to it without having to get under the car?
Also, when the tank leaks, does the water drip down directly or does it run out somewhere else? Reason I ask is that the water is collecting towards the back of the engine bay which could make the water hoses the more likely suspect (?)

With all the stories I've been reading, I wouldn't want to disturb the tank if I don't have to!!
:mmm:

i would check the heater pipes :)
check all pipes for small holes, on my E36 i had the same problem, the pipe running to the head (under the intake manufold) had a "pin prick" and over time it spilt, but i would loose water very slowly at first, eventually it gave in and the car stood on the side of the road for the morning, lol
