330i or 320d all the way.

320i is a massive heavy car with a tiny engine that is better suited for a polo, it makes very little torque so you will be pushing that accelerator down all the way allot of the time which means higher fuel consumption.

320d has awesome torque, sounds like a tractor but you get over it, you can feather the throttle in most circumstances and when you want to overtake the power is there.

330i has the torque and the top end power and because of this makes it a pleasure to drive in most conditions, Plus it has a beautiful engine and exhaust note.

323i and 325i are 6 pot but always just feel like they are missing something when you put your foot down, They also use a bit more fuel in city driving conditions due to less torque than the 330i.

Sorry to hijack the thread here but what about fuel consumption. I know it is driver dependent and car's condition etc but surely the reason one would be aiming for a 320i and not the 6 pot Beemas is because they are heavier on juice even though they have better power output.

i own a 320i e90 auto 2012- trust me bud, if i had read up earlier, i would have def. gone the 6 pod way.

my car averages 11.2 combined.

I hear a 323i is just a detuned 325i. Or is there more to it than just "tuning"? Do mechanical parts physically need to be upgraded or computer chip upgraded?

It more than just tuning.

The intake design is a bit different and the exhaust manifold i believe is smaller in diameter.

Uhhm surprising nobody mentioned that the 323/325 and in some cases the 330 can have major oil consumption issues.

Some guys reported 1 lite per 1000km!

I think the N52 is a 2 stroke engine :roflol:

But damn, I dont care what it runs on. These are the last NA engines out of BMW.
That induction and exhaust sing the songs from heaven...

Besides the visual differences between the Pre LCI and the LCI are there any changes to the mechanics or any revisions that made the LCI even better?

Not sure but I do know that there are engine differences between the 320d's, LCI has the newer N47 engine whereas the pre LCI has the M47TU2 engine. The N47 has more power and better fuel economy. Other than looks I don't know of any other differences

Consider expanding your shopping list. If you want a 6 pot look at the 330i as well but if you're concerned about fuel consumption, add the 320d and 330d to your list. The power figures on the diesels are incredible.

Anyway, I suppose it depends on what you want.
320i - comfortable, luxury vehicle but lacks power :nono: :bin:
323i - great engine note but not fuel efficient and lacks power for a 6 cylinder :pfft:
325i - satisfactory power and great engine note, not fuel efficient :argh:
330i - powerful and great engine/exhaust note, not fuel efficient :excited:

320d - satisfactory power and great fuel efficiency, but that tractor sound :shakehead: (tuning potential)
330d - powerful and fuel efficient  (great tuning potential)

If it was my money, I would definitely get a 330d.

I have a 2006 325i if you're interested.

I've replaced a lot of components on the car already, including valve stem seals and the vanos.

we are just giving the OP some info regarding all the cars and their individual positive and negative sides so he (maybe a she, dont know) can decide and see what the risk is with each.

Plus we are driving these cars so it's not info coming from a toyota or VW guy

If speed is the only thing you base a car on then get a 335i or an M car.
If you want to drive to work and to buy milk and biltong then any other BMW will be fine.
